I asked a grieving mom what most people won’t

2/24 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my own experience, I've found that grief often feels like a heavy, isolating weight, especially for parents who have lost a child. Many people shy away from acknowledging this pain because they fear saying the wrong thing or making the person uncomfortable. However, creating space for open and compassionate conversation can be incredibly healing. When I spoke with a grieving mother, I noticed that simply asking about her child’s name and what they were like brought a visible change in her demeanor. It’s important to remember that acknowledging the existence and significance of the lost child does not amplify the pain—it validates the parent’s ongoing love and connection. In practice, when someone shares such a loss, gently encouraging them to talk about their child can help break the silence that so often surrounds grief. This might mean asking about cherished memories or how the child’s presence influenced their lives. It reassures parents that their child’s life mattered and that they are not forgotten. I’ve also learned that grief doesn’t follow a set timeline. Offering consistent support, rather than avoiding the subject, helps grieving parents feel understood and supported through a very personal journey. Small acts—like remembering the child’s name or sharing a memory someone else may have of them—can profoundly impact a parent's healing process. Ultimately, kindness and willingness to listen are key. Grief needs space to be expressed, not silence. By leaning in with empathy and compassionate curiosity, we can help keep the memory of loved ones alive and provide solace to those enduring unimaginable loss.

Grieving the loss of someone who’s still alive
Losing someone important to you due to their own choices can be one of the most difficult experiences any human could endure. The sheer part of letting go is the hardest. Why would you let go of someone that’s still there? Doesn’t that show YOU’VE given up? Or maybe you agree to the choice as well?

You’re not crazy. You’re grieving.
This grief does not mean you are weak. When you lose a partner, spouse, or soulmate, your entire nervous system shifts. The tight chest. The brain fog. The waves of panic. The exhaustion. That is not weakness. That is a body trying to recalibrate after love has been torn from its daily rhythm

Nothing hurts more than finishing your favorite skincare… and remembering you put yourself on a low buy. So no repurchasing until I work through the backups in my stash. Responsible? Yes. Emotionally devastating? Also yes. These bottles served their time and gave me some great skin days, but wow
