recent eats: affordable western food reccs!

Been eating too good lately and here’s some of my must visits!

Joji’s Diner - Serangoon

(534 Upper Serangoon Rd, Singapore 534549)

This has been constantly popping up on my feed since forever and i finally had the opportunity to try it! This really was the most value for money meal as the portions were legit so huge and the food was BUSS. I got the omelette and hash ($12.90) and was surprised that it came as a rosti (a W for me tho). The sour cream was also just nice and i used it as a dip for the loaded spuds (not in pic). The strawberry milkshake ($8.90) was definitely on the sweet side + they blended in fruity pebbles, so this would be much suited for those with a sweet tooth. The chocolate milkshake ($11.90) was actually so rich and delicious OMG. but fyi idk if its just our taste buds but the donut that came with it tasted like watermelon?? so many questions…

Do yourself a favour and order what you can eat because my friends and i could not finish our food TT but this really was worth it and im excited to try Joji’s Deli next!

OverEasy

(1 Fullerton Road 01-06 One Fullerton, 049213)

The whole vibe of this place was actually so cute, its giving retro american diner! I got the Linguine with Prawns ($24) and can you see that FOUR ginormous prawns they gave me? First time seeing this portion size for this price. To me, it was not too spicy and the lemon butter sauce was light, perfectly balancing the creamy butter and lemon zest. (just fyi you gotta peel the prawns yourself but honestly its worth the effort so suck it up.) Stole a bit of the Truffle Burger ($29) from my mum and wOw the truffle blends with the beef patty so well. You can also choose the rareness of the beef patty btw! This is such a cute date/photo-spot for you to take cute pics!

Salt & Soul

(182 Cecil St, Singapore 069547)

This cafe was discovered from tiktok and it did not disappoint. The Beef Ragu ($18) had hints of cheese mixed in that gave an added layer to the dish, absolute yummers. We also ordered the Spaghetti Allo Scoglio ($18) and all the seafood ingredients were so fresh! I totally did not expect to have so many pieces of seafood considering how affordable the meal was. Before visiting this restaurant, you might want to make a reservation because it was fully booked on a Tuesday evening.

Botany Robertson Quay

(86 Robertson Quay, Singapore 238245)

I LOVED the Truffle Fries ($15), they were so generous with the truffle and parmesan. Plus point it was a really big portion shared between three people + it was really crispy even though we ate it last. We also got the Truffle Mushroom Penne ($18) and similarly, the truffle taste was strong without being too overpowering, we were scrapping up the sauce when after finishing the penne. The Signature Grilled Chicken with Balinese Salsa ($18) was a good try but not really my top choice here. I found it so cute how the rice served was glutinous rice HAHAH

I actually so excited to revisit these places to try their other menu items. Yall should check them out too!!

... Read moreIf you’re hunting for more affordable Western dining options in Singapore beyond these favorites, here're some tips and recommendations based on my experiences. Many Western diners here offer generous portions and unique twists on classic dishes, so it pays to explore their specialties. For instance, Joji’s Diner impressed me not just with portion sizes but their clever use of rosti as a base for the omelette, which added a delightful crispy texture. If you prefer sweeter drinks, the fruity pebble strawberry milkshake is a fun choice, though be mindful of portion sizes as the dishes can be quite filling. OverEasy stands out with its retro American diner vibe and impressive seafood. The linguine with prawns was perfect in flavor balance, and peeling your own prawns adds a bit of fun to the meal. Salt & Soul, discovered through TikTok, is a hidden gem with affordable yet fresh seafood options – just remember to book ahead since it can get busy even on weekdays. At Botany Robertson Quay, their truffle fries are not to be missed, generously coated in truffle oil and parmesan. The glutinous rice served with grilled chicken added an unexpected twist that I found quite charming. If you’re new to these places, I suggest sharing dishes among friends to try a wider range without feeling overwhelmed. Also, keep an eye out for seasonal menus and weekend specials that often feature exciting new plates. Finally, many of these spots are perfect photo ops for social media, so bring your camera and enjoy the full experience of good food and great ambiance!
