From my own experience practicing gel nail application, the preparation stage truly sets the foundation for a successful and long-lasting manicure. It is essential to handle the cuticle area delicately to avoid any damage or bleeding, which can compromise the adhesion of the product. I’ve found that opening the cuticle pocket correctly and gently filing the natural nail plate ensures better bonding and a smoother finish. During early practice sessions, mastering the right amount of bonding base is a trial-and-error process. Too much product can create bubbles or overlap onto the skin, while too little can lead to weak adhesion. What helped me tremendously was taking my time to apply thin, even layers and learning how to feather the edges meticulously. Shaping the nail tips or protheses also enhances the aesthetics and functionality of the final look. Trying different shapes—such as coffin, stiletto, or almond—not only improves your filing techniques but also helps you understand how to maintain symmetry and balance. Patience and repeated practice with the nail file are key to developing confidence in handling these variations. One observation I resonate with is the importance of seamlessly blending the artificial nail with the natural nail. Visible demarcations reduce the quality perception, so spending extra time to fuse the edges with a smooth gradient really makes a big difference in the final result. Overall, being mindful at each step from cuticle care, product application, to shaping and finishing results in beautiful, client-ready gel nails. It takes persistence and guidance, but the rewarding outcome is well worth the effort.
