Stop using these skin care products

3/17 Edited to

... Read moreFrom personal experience, I’ve learned the hard way that combining certain skincare ingredients can either boost results or cause irritation. For example, retinol and vitamin C are both powerful but should not be layered directly as they can reduce each other’s effectiveness and cause sensitivity. Instead, I alternate their use between morning and night. Niacinamide, a favorite of mine for calming and brightening skin, pairs wonderfully with hyaluronic acid because the hydration from hyaluronic acid complements niacinamide’s soothing properties. However, niacinamide should not be combined with peeling acids like glycolic or salicylic acid as this can irritate skin or cancel out their benefits. Using exfoliating acids such as glycolic acid and salicylic acid together can also be too harsh and cause redness and peeling. It’s better to choose one or alternate days to give your skin time to recover. This kind of ingredient synergy is crucial because some actives like retinol or peeling acids work best at specific pH levels and can degrade or neutralize one another if layered improperly. I always recommend patch testing new combinations and observing how your skin reacts over a few days before fully incorporating them into your routine. In summary, the key takeaways that helped me improve my skincare routine are: avoid mixing retinol with vitamin C or niacinamide, use hyaluronic acid alongside niacinamide for hydration and calmness, and separate the use of exfoliating acids. Following these simple guidelines can safeguard your skin from irritation and optimize the benefits of your products.

Why is their mixed advice on Niacinamide and Vitamin C being used together? I have seen dermatologists post that it is okay to layer them.
