Bodybuilding healed my body image...

I used to think body positivity meant always loving how I looked…

But truthfully? Competing taught me that loving your body isn’t about liking it every second — it’s about respecting it through every phase.

Peak week, offseason, bloated, fluffy, lean, tired, strong — I’ve lived in every version of my body and learned something from each one.

Bodybuilding didn’t make me pick myself apart…

It made me pay attention.

To how I feel.

To how I show up.

To how I treat myself.

So yeah, some days I feel amazing and other days I don’t even want to look in the mirror — but I show up for her anyway. That’s love.

... Read moreBuilding on what I shared about bodybuilding healing my body image, I wanted to dive a little deeper into what these different physique phases actually feel like and what they mean for self-acceptance. It's easy to scroll through social media and see countless images of a 'shredded woman body' or a 'fitness model shredded physique,' and think that's the ultimate goal. I certainly did for a long time. The truth is, achieving that intensely 'shredded body' often requires extreme dedication, restrictive diets, and a level of leanness that isn't sustainable or healthy for most people year-round. It's often a temporary state for a competition or photoshoot, showcasing a 'lean athletic physique' at its peak, with every 'shredded arm' fiber visible. What I've learned on my own journey, embracing various 'body transformation' phases, is the beauty in the less-celebrated looks. After a competition, my body naturally transitions into a 'bodybuilder offseason physique.' This phase is crucial for recovery, strength gains, and overall well-being. It means a 'softer look' than my peak-week self, sometimes even a 'bloated physique' after reintroducing foods or during phases of intense 'muscle-building.' But this isn't a step backward; it's essential for progress. This is where I truly learned to respect your body in every season. It’s about understanding that a 'bloated bodybuilder' isn't failing; they're strategically building and recovering. Many women aim for a 'toned vs shredded' look, and I totally get that. I've found a lot of personal comfort and power in what I'd call a 'soft muscle build' or a 'soft fit body.' This isn't about being less strong; it's about carrying a bit more body fat, which often comes with better energy levels, hormonal balance, and mental health. It’s a powerful, functional 'realistic gym body' that feels amazing to live in. This is where the real work of self-love comes in – accepting your body when it's not at its most 'shredded woman' state, but still appreciating its strength and capabilities. For anyone striving for a 'realistic fit female body,' remember that your body is constantly adapting. One moment you might have a 'lean look,' the next you might be in a 'muscle-building' phase with a 'softer look.' Both are valid, beautiful, and part of the incredible journey of fitness. My experience has shown me that the true victory isn't in maintaining one rigid 'shredded physique,' but in cultivating a deep, unwavering respect for your body through 'every phase.' It’s about showing up for yourself, no matter if you're 'shredded or soft,' and celebrating the incredible things your body can do.
