The magic behind this incredible vegan "bacon" lies in two main ingredients: tempeh and rice paper. Tempeh, a fermented soybean product, gives us that hearty, meaty texture, while rice paper adds an irresistible crispiness that mimics traditional bacon. The marinade is where all the flavor happens – a blend of low-sodium soy sauce, olive oil, organic brown sugar for a touch of sweetness, liquid smoke for that essential smoky flavor, and a sprinkle of garlic and onion powder, plus paprika and black pepper for depth. It’s a clean eating dream compared to many store-bought alternatives, allowing you to control exactly what goes into your meal. Ready to make your own meaty & crispy plant-based bacon? Here’s how I do it: Prepare the Tempeh: Take your 8-ounce block of tempeh and slice it into thin, rectangular strips – think classic bacon shape!
