Dear Pilates girls….

Pilates is a respected method with its own history, structure, and purpose. However, Pilates has not traditionally been built around dumbbell-based rhythm and tempo training in the way Polykinetics was created.

Polykinetics is my original method, created in 2014, and it came from years of lived experience, training, observation, and insight. I saw a pattern in movement, rhythm, tempo, and structure that others were not addressing in the same way, and I developed that into a method with its own framework.

What has been difficult is watching parts of that work get imitated, renamed, or folded into other fitness trends without proper understanding or acknowledgment. I love teaching, and I want people to learn, but Polykinetics should not be casually remade into something it is not.

If someone wants to reference, teach, critique, or build from Polykinetics, I ask that they first take the time to properly learn the method, understand the mechanics, and respect the framework behind it. This work matters to me because I created it with purpose, and I want it represented accurately.

However, after encountering Polykinetics, I noticed a distinct philosophy behind its practice. Unlike Pilates, which emphasizes mat work and bodyweight exercises, Polykinetics integrates dumbbell-based rhythm and tempo training, providing a fresh and dynamic approach to movement. What resonates with me about Polykinetics is the attention to rhythm and structure in every exercise. When I incorporated this method into my routine, I noticed that the tempo not only challenged my muscular endurance but also improved my coordination and balance significantly. This awareness of timing and flow in motion feels meditative, much like Pilates, but with the added intensity of resistance training through weights. Another key aspect is the respect for the method’s integrity. It’s easy to see how exercises from Polykinetics get generalized or confused with Pilates or other fitness trends, but dedicating time to understanding its mechanics and principles made a big difference in how I performed and benefited from the workouts. This deep dive gave me greater respect for its creator’s deliberate framework—every movement has purpose, and every tempo shift serves to enhance physical and mental engagement. If you’re someone who enjoys Pilates and is curious about diversifying your regimen, exploring Polykinetics might be a rewarding experience. It’s not about replacing Pilates but expanding the options for fitness that cater to rhythmic weight training and a structured approach to tempo. For those considering teaching or referencing Polykinetics, I’d echo the importance of honoring its unique framework and history. Accurate representation protects the method’s essence and ensures practitioners receive the intended benefits. In essence, Polykinetics offers a compelling complement to traditional Pilates, bridging rhythmic resistance training with mindful movement.
