Why you should be lifting

2024/9/18 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I used to think lifting weights was just about building big muscles, but let me tell you, I've discovered something even more profound: it's a game-changer for bone density! If you've been wondering, 'Does weight lifting increase bone density?' or 'How does lifting weights increase bone density?', I'm here to share what I've learned on my journey. It turns out, our bones are living tissue and they respond to stress. When you lift weights – whether you're using dumbbells, a barbell, or even just your own body weight – you're putting healthy stress on your bones. This is a principle called Wolff's Law. Essentially, your bones perceive this stress and respond by becoming stronger and denser to handle future loads. It's like they're saying, 'Okay, we need to be tougher!' This process involves special cells called osteoblasts building new bone tissue, which is exactly what we want. I remember seeing an image, almost like a flat lay of black workout equipment including dumbbells, and it really made me think about how accessible weight training is. The text on it asked, 'Why adding weights to your workout routine is so important,' and honestly, for bone health, it truly is. So, what kind of lifting helps? Any form of resistance training where you're working against a force. This could be: Strength training with free weights: Think squats, deadlifts, overhead presses with dumbbells or a barbell. These compound movements are fantastic because they engage multiple muscle groups and put stress on major bones. Bodyweight exercises: Push-ups, squats, lunges, and planks are great for beginners and still provide resistance. Resistance bands: Another excellent option for adding progressive resistance. From my own experience, starting slow and focusing on form is key. I began with lighter weights, perfecting my movements, and gradually increased the load. It's not about lifting the heaviest weight you can; it's about consistency and proper technique to ensure your bones get the right kind of stimulus without injury. Beyond bone density, regularly adding weights to your workout routine has other incredible benefits too, like improving balance and coordination, which further reduces the risk of falls and fractures as we age. Plus, I've noticed a significant reduction in my stress levels after a good lifting session – something the OCR even highlighted! Don't underestimate the power of adding weights to your workout routine. It's not just for aesthetics; it's an investment in your long-term health and mobility. So, if you're looking for ways to incorporate weightlifting, start researching some basic exercises, maybe watch some tutorials, and give it a try. Your future self will definitely thank you for those stronger, denser bones!

This is why you’re NOT Toning Up! 🙁
1️⃣ Increased Metabolic Rate: Weightlifting builds muscle, which requires more energy at rest. This means you burn more calories throughout the day, aiding in long-term fat loss. 2️⃣ Afterburn Effect (EPOC): Intense weightlifting sessions create an Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC)
