... Read moreThat story about our school's 'uncrackable' Wi-Fi always makes me laugh, but it really highlights a big issue for us teenagers: doing high school homework in a world that's constantly online. Seriously, how are we supposed to tackle complex projects or research papers without reliable internet access? It's not just about procrastinating or scrolling social media; a good chunk of our assignments today require us to be connected. I remember countless times struggling to connect my laptop in the cafeteria or even finding a quiet spot outside the library, just hoping to get enough signal to download a rubric or submit an essay. My friends and I often debated our school's Wi-Fi policy. Was it really helping us focus, or just making homework harder? Sometimes, it felt like the Principal and teachers didn't quite grasp how much we depended on the internet for learning. We'd see signs about 'no sharing passwords,' and there was even talk of suspension if you were caught bypassing the network. But when you're staring down a deadline for a major research project, and all your resources are online, you get creative. My advice for anyone in high school facing similar tech hurdles with their homework? First, always try to plan ahead. If you know you have a big assignment coming up that needs internet access, try to get a head start at home where your Wi-Fi is reliable. Download articles, videos, and any necessary files to your computer or laptop before you even get to school. That way, you can work offline in class or during study hall, making your time much more efficient. Another thing we learned was the power of collaboration – responsibly, of course! Sometimes, a friend had already downloaded a key document, or we could compare research notes. We even figured out that some of the school's public computers were less restricted, or we’d head to the local library after school. It's all about finding those alternative ways to connect and get your work done. For group projects, we'd often designate one person with good home internet to compile resources, then share them via USB drives or cloud services that could sync later. It's a tricky balance between school policy and our actual needs. While I understand why schools want to control internet usage, especially with things being broadcast and shared, sometimes it feels like these restrictions hinder our ability to complete essential tasks. I've heard stories about students using their phone's hotspot, but that eats up data fast and isn't always an option. Having a clear discussion with teachers about what resources are truly needed for homework could help. Maybe schools could offer designated 'homework Wi-Fi' zones with specific access for academic tasks, or even provide a list of approved offline resources. Ultimately, our goal as teenagers is to learn and succeed, and sometimes, that means finding smart ways to overcome technological barriers to ensure our homework gets done.

I hate journaling (I thought)
You've tried journaling and it went like this: open blank page, stare at it, "I don't know what to write," close it and feel like a failure. The problem was never you. Blank pages are intimidating, "write whatever you feel" is too vague, and most prompts feel like homework.
