“I had a disadvantage growing up because no one in my family went to the military or college. We lived on government assistance and didn’t live in a fancy home however, we had a roof over our heads and food in our stomachs. When I was ignored, I tried hard to be seen. When I was overlooked, I tried hard to be noticed. I started to give up on myself… however, through my journey I learned many things but one thing stuck with me… it don’t take much to be seen and noticed by the right people who do care. I just found supportive people in my corner who love the hell out of me and that was the motivation I needed to push through. I made it! Not because of blood… I made it because unfamiliar faces became family and shown me how love and support is supposed to make you feel. It’s not something you have to try hard to get or go out of your way to do. It’s so easy that it just flows! I thank all of you unfamiliar faces who became my family!!! I love yall and you know who you are!!!!”❤️❤️❤️❤️😘👩‍🎓🙏🏼

... Read moreBecoming a first-generation college graduate is a remarkable achievement that comes with unique challenges and triumphs. Many individuals in this position face obstacles that can seem insurmountable, often stemming from family backgrounds where higher education is uncommon. This journey, however, can lead to personal growth and resilience. Factors like military service can provide invaluable skills and discipline that translate well into academic success. The importance of community support cannot be overstated; finding mentors and allies can make a significant difference in navigating the path to graduation. Programs that offer guidance, scholarships, and emotional support can also empower first-gen students to pursue their dreams. Moreover, sharing stories of perseverance can inspire others facing similar struggles. By highlighting these experiences, we can foster an environment of encouragement and mentorship for future generations, showing that even when the odds seem stacked against you, with determination and support, it is possible to achieve greatness. First-generation college students are paving the way for a brighter future, not just for themselves, but for their families and communities. As more stories of success emerge, they serve as beacons of hope for those undertaking similar journeys. It's essential to celebrate these victories, as they not only reflect individual persistence but also signify a shift in societal norms regarding education and opportunity.
