At This Point I Was Just Done 😵‍💫

After lunch, I told her I wanted to take a Grab back to the hotel.

For context, the hotel was only about a 10-minute walk away.

Normally I would have just walked.

But it was uphill, the weather was horrible, and I had been dealing with a migraine since the morning.

I genuinely wasn’t feeling well and just wanted to get back, shower, and rest.

I didn’t mind paying for the Grab at all.

When I suggested it, her face looked like she didn’t really want to, but she still agreed because she knew I wasn’t feeling well.

When we got back to the hotel…

The silence continued.

She didn’t talk to me.

Whenever I tried talking to her, I got ignored.

So eventually I just stopped trying.

About 10 minutes later, she suddenly asked:

“You want to go out already?”

And I was thinking…

“Huh?”

The whole reason I came back was because I wasn’t feeling well.

We had lunch at around 3–4pm and only reached the hotel around 4.30pm.

The weather felt like 40°C and my head was pounding the entire day.

So I took a shower, lay down on the bed…

And completely knocked out.

At around 9pm, she woke me up and asked if I wanted to go out.

I told her honestly:

“I don’t feel well. I don’t feel like going out or eating. I just want to rest.”

And that’s exactly what I did.

I slept from around 5pm all the way until 6am the next morning.

That’s how exhausted I was.

Also, before anyone says I was trying to save money or avoid activities…

Both of us had already put aside 1.5 million VND each for food and Grab rides.

That’s 3 million VND in total (about S$147).

More than enough for the next few days.

Money wasn’t the issue.

My body was simply running on empty

... Read moreTraveling when you're feeling unwell can be a true test of patience and resilience. From my own experiences, dealing with a migraine while trying to keep up with a travel schedule is incredibly draining. I realized that sometimes, even if the destination is close by—in this case, just a 10-minute walk—your body might not permit the simplest tasks. Weather conditions like extreme heat combined with physical discomfort only compound the exhaustion. It's important to listen to your body's warning signs. Pushing yourself to keep up with others' expectations or planned activities when your health is compromised often leads to frustration and misunderstandings, as I experienced firsthand. The silence and cold shoulders weren't about saving money or avoiding plans; my body simply needed rest. I found that openly communicating my state helped, but sometimes people need time to understand. Having budget set aside, such as our 1.5 million VND for essentials like food and rides, means money shouldn't be the barrier to taking care of oneself. Prioritizing rest over social events isn't failure but an essential act of self-care. If you’re on a trip but not feeling well, consider these tips: 1. Accept that it’s okay to rest and take breaks from planned activities. 2. Use trusted transport options like Grab to reduce physical strain even for short distances. 3. Communicate clearly and calmly with your travel companions about your needs. 4. Carry essentials like pain relievers or hydration aids to manage symptoms on the go. 5. Remember that health comes first—no sightseeing or socializing is worth compromising well-being. My experience taught me the hardest lesson: sometimes, the best travel memory you can make is respecting your limits and giving your body the care it desperately needs, even if it means missing out temporarily.
