Testing for children with developmental delays part 5

These folate markers (41–42) can give clues about how the body is using important B vitamins needed for brain development and communication pathways.

Most parents are never told to look deeper into this.

I’m breaking down the OAT test section by section so it actually makes sense

5/12 Edited to

... Read moreIn my experience working with children facing developmental delays, understanding the role of folate (Vitamin B9) has been eye-opening. Folate is not just a vitamin; it’s a fundamental building block for brain wiring, neurotransmitter production, and overall nervous system health. Many parents are unaware that deficiencies or imbalances in folate metabolism can have a profound impact on their child's learning, speech, behavior, and social interaction. The Organic Acids Test (OAT) provides crucial markers, specifically uracil and thymine levels, which help us see how well the body is using folate and related B vitamins like B12 and B6. High uracil might indicate increased cell turnover or folate deficiency, while elevated thymine suggests poor DNA repair and inflammation linked to insufficient folate or B12. Keeping these markers within a balanced range is essential for healthy brain cell growth and function. Through tracking these markers, I have noticed that targeted nutritional support aimed at improving folate metabolism can lead to noticeable improvements in focus, energy, and communication abilities in children. Since folate influences vital neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, addressing low folate levels can also mitigate issues like fatigue and mood difficulties. If your child has developmental delays or speech concerns, asking for a detailed look into folate markers during OAT testing can be an important step. Incorporating this insight into a broader health and nutritional plan often makes interventions more effective. Ultimately, it’s about giving your child the best chance at improved development and quality of life by understanding and supporting their unique biochemical needs.
