Test for children with developmental delays part 6

If you’re a parent of an autistic, non verbal, or developmentally delayed child… I know how overwhelming it can feel trying to figure out where to even start. 🤍

I created this to share the testing we personally chose to do for my son, what it cost us, where I ordered the tests, and what I learned through the process.

These tests are NOT magic answers and they are not one-size-fits-all. Every child is different. But for us, testing uncovered things happening in his body that we would have never known otherwise.

Things like:

• mold exposure

• gut imbalances

• nutrient issues

• infections

• immune-related concerns

• neurotransmitter patterns

…and more.

I spent months researching because I wanted to understand what his results actually meant before finding a MAPS-certified functional practitioner to help guide us.

I’m not a doctor and I’m not telling anyone what they should do for their child. I’m simply sharing our experience in hopes it helps another parent feel less lost.

Please remember:

- You do not need to buy expensive “miracle” programs from people promising guaranteed outcomes.

- No single protocol works for every child.

- Real support should focus on investigation, individuality, and compassion.

... Read moreAs a parent navigating the complex world of developmental delays, I found that comprehensive testing was a crucial step in understanding my child’s unique health challenges. Beyond just diagnosing behavioral symptoms, these specialized tests shed light on hidden issues such as mold exposure, gut microbiome imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, infections, and neurotransmitter irregularities—factors that can significantly impact brain development and overall health. For instance, the Organic Acids Test (OAT) helped identify overgrowth of gut bacteria and yeast, which are often overlooked but can contribute to inflammation and neurological symptoms. Mold and mycotoxin testing revealed environmental factors that affected our child’s immune response and cognitive function, emphasizing the importance of assessing the home environment as part of the evaluation. One surprising discovery was the role of genetic variations revealed through neural and detox pathway-focused genetic panels. Understanding these markers allowed us to tailor interventions more precisely rather than following generic protocols. This personalization was key since no single approach suits every child with developmental delays. Cost is understandably a concern for many families, as many of these tests are not covered by insurance and can add up to over a thousand dollars. We prioritized tests based on symptoms and recommendations from functional medicine practitioners. Ordering tests from reputable online labs, like Vibrant Wellness for Neural Zoomer and MaxGen Labs for genetic testing, with guidance from a MAPS-certified functional doctor, ensured the results were actionable and meaningful. Interpreting these complex test results requires patience and research. We took the time to understand what each flagged result meant, which empowered us to advocate for interventions effectively. Partnering with knowledgeable healthcare providers was invaluable, turning test findings into targeted therapies, such as detoxification protocols, gut healing strategies, and immune support. From personal experience, I encourage other parents not to feel pressured by expensive miracle cures or one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, focusing on comprehensive and individualized testing supported by compassionate professionals offers a realistic pathway to helping each child thrive. The journey is demanding but the insight gained from these tests has been a game-changer in our son's progress and quality of life.
