How long did you breastfeed?

I exclusively breastfed my daughter till she was 6 months and started BLW. I continued to BF her on top of food and water. We BF for almost 3 years!

It is recommended to breastfed till the age of 2 now but remember FED IS BEST! Formula feeding is perfectly normal and should be done if you prefer it or cannot breastfed (no supply, meds you’re on, or you just don’t want to).

No mother should be judged by how they feed their baby and I wish people without kids would stop with the criticism! Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

If you do BLW make sure your baby shows all the signs of readiness first!

•Showing interest in food

•Diminished tongue reflex

•Sitting up unassisted with very minimal support

•Good head control

•Able to grasp object

•Brings objects to their mouth

✨The first 3 are the most important ones

... Read moreWhen I first started my breastfeeding journey, I remember constantly wondering, 'How long should I really do this?' There's so much advice out there, from the typical 6 months to 1 year, to the World Health Organization recommending up to 2 years or beyond. My own experience, nursing my little one for almost three years, really opened my eyes to the incredible flexibility and personal nature of this decision. Every parent's situation is unique, and finding what works best for your family is truly the most important thing. For me, continuing to breastfeed past the first year, and even into toddlerhood, felt incredibly natural. It wasn't just about nutrition anymore; it became a source of comfort for my child, especially during teething, sickness, or big developmental leaps. The bond we shared during those quiet nursing moments was irreplaceable. I found it was a wonderful way to reconnect during busy days, offering a familiar sense of calm for both of us. The extended immunity benefits were also a huge plus, as I felt I was continually giving my child a boost against common childhood illnesses. It's true that extended breastfeeding can sometimes raise eyebrows. I've certainly encountered curious glances or even well-meaning but unsolicited advice from others who might not understand why a 'big' child is still nursing. It can feel isolating at times, but remembering that 'fed is best' and trusting my instincts as a mother was key. Every family's journey is unique, and what works for one might not work for another. It's about finding what brings peace and health to your own household, regardless of outside opinions. Navigating the practicalities of breastfeeding an older child, especially when you're out and about, can also be a learning curve. I found that having a supportive partner and a few discreet nursing outfits made a huge difference. Sometimes, simply having a prepared answer for curious questions helped me feel more confident. It's a personal choice, and one that often requires a thick skin, but the rewards for both mother and child can be immense. When we introduced Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) around 6 months, breastfeeding continued to play a crucial role. It complemented solid foods, ensuring my child was getting all the nutrients they needed while exploring new tastes and textures. It wasn't about replacing breast milk; it was about adding to it. This approach really helped us transition smoothly, and I felt confident that my child was well-nourished throughout. Ultimately, whether you breastfeed for a few weeks, a few months, or a few years, or choose formula from day one, what truly matters is that your baby is loved, nourished, and thriving. The pressure on new parents to conform to certain feeding ideals can be immense. I believe we all need to support each other without judgment, celebrating every feeding journey for what it is—a labor of love. No one should feel shamed for how they choose to feed their child, because a healthy, happy baby (and parent!) is the ultimate goal.
