Homemade Marshmallow Tips

Scrolling through my page, you’ll see treats and bakes that I make in my kitchen! If it’s store-bought, I really don’t want it and I will do my best to re-create snacks, candies, breads, foods…you name it with simple ingredients. Just a sneak-peek into my life as a trad-wife and Pastry Chef. 💚

It’s summertime and I am all about foods that embody each season and bring it to life. It’s only fitting that I make S’more kits for my kids and community! 🍫 I won’t share the recipe, today, but you can find fool-proof ones all over Pinterest or Google. If you think that this will be “easy” think again, because marshmallows along with all candy is time-consuming when executed properly. I am sharing tips on how to get the best result!

1. If you don’t have something the recipe calls for…MOVE ON. Don’t try to sub it out just find a recioe that calls for exactly what you have or are buying.

2. Candy=NO HUMIDITY. Do NOT try to make candy or marshmallows when it’s more than 40% humid. Your climate matters in this equation and it won’t set or will stay gummy/gooey.

3. When creating Marshmallows you must use a powdered substance like cornstarch…if you are going natural it’s super hard to make these mallows because you do NEED gelatin….the origina, unflavoredl kind with bone-marrow for the proper setting technique.

4. YOU WILL GET STICKY! No mess? There is no such thing 😅

5. If the sides don’t attempt to roll up while you spread your mallow cream…you didn’t mix long enough so start over! Once you stop whisking, the cream starts coming together quick and is uber sticky.

While preparing your marshmallows, be sure to whip the mixture until it becomes fluffy. This process incorporates air, making the marshmallows light and airy. Don't forget to pay close attention to the timing; overmixing can lead to rubbery marshmallows. Lastly, have fun and experiment with flavors by adding extracts like vanilla or almond, or even chocolate chips for a unique twist.
