My first 10k race

Too many emotions, first race in the book finished it with a PR 🥹🫶🏼

lessons I learned from training up until race day, too often your mind is the limiting factor and you have to push through and see what your limits are.

I went in wanting to do a sub 60 10k but then I thought I should set lower expectations given I only started running 5/6 months ago and it might not be attainable. Safe to say I surpassed my goals with a 59 mins finish time and it was my first 10k continuously running nonstop.

... Read moreCrossing that 10K finish line was an absolute whirlwind of emotions I’ll never forget! As my feet pounded the last few meters, my eyes were glued to the finish line arch, and a huge smile just broke out on my face. All the training, the early mornings, the moments I wanted to give up but didn't – it all culminated in that single, glorious moment. The crowd cheering, the adrenaline pumping, and then, just like that, I was over the line! The relief and pure elation were overwhelming, a feeling of accomplishment that words can barely describe. Then came the medal! Oh my goodness, receiving that finisher's medal was truly something special. It wasn't just a piece of metal; it was tangible proof of my hard work, my resilience, and a testament to pushing past my perceived limits. I immediately put it on, feeling its weight and warmth, and couldn't stop grinning. Every runner at the finish line had that same glow, holding their medals high, sharing silent understanding of the journey we’d all just completed. It's a moment I’d re-live a thousand times over – that joyful exhaustion and immense pride. After the race, recovery felt just as important as the run itself! I grabbed some refreshing watermelon and took a moment to just soak it all in. My body definitely needed some love. My post-race treat, a delicious acai bowl packed with strawberries, bananas, and coconut, tasted like heaven. And that post-race meal – a satisfying sandwich with a pickle – hit all the right spots, replenishing my energy stores. There’s something incredibly satisfying about fueling your body right after such an effort. The days following were all about unwinding and letting my body heal. I made sure to prioritize 'beach time for recovery,' letting the calm ocean waves and warm sand soothe my tired muscles. It wasn't just physical recovery; it was mental too, reflecting on the experience and feeling like a truly 'happy girl' after achieving such a personal milestone. This whole experience, from the first step of training to the final recovery, has taught me so much about what I'm capable of. It’s not just about the distance; it’s about the journey and celebrating every single step.
