Prenatal costs

Took KKH subsidised route from the getgo.

As I didn’t have any complications , only tested positive for GBS i. Week 38 which means I need IV and antibiotics during labor.

Had different doctors each time but these are the rough costs pre-labor.

I am currently 12w PP but have yet to receive my KKH delivery charge so will update again !

Choosing a subsidised route, like the one offered by KKH, can significantly ease the financial burden while ensuring necessary tests and treatments are covered. In my experience, routinely visiting KKH for prenatal care meant encountering different doctors each visit, which provided diverse perspectives but also emphasized the system’s efficiency. Testing positive for Group B Streptococcus (GBS) at week 38 was a surprise that added another layer to my prenatal journey. It meant additional IV antibiotics during labor, which influenced both care requirements and costs. However, the subsidised rates helped manage these expenses. From the breakdown shared, such as routine blood work, scans, X-rays, and vaccinations, there is an evident difference between unsubsidised and subsidised charges, highlighting the importance of subsidy for families budgeting for a new arrival. For example, a routine check including X-ray may cost around 299 SGD unsubsidised but is reduced to nearly half at 149.5 SGD after subsidy. It's also important to note that while prenatal visits and tests occur over many weeks, the delivery charges can come later, as in my case, where I am 12 weeks post-partum but still awaiting the final delivery bill from KKH. This reflects the need to plan for extended costs beyond prenatal care. For expecting parents, understanding these costs and preparing financially can ease anxiety. Additionally, knowing that GBS carrier status requires specific interventions during labor ensures better birth preparedness. Keeping receipts and a cost log can help track expenses and claims if using insurance or government subsidies. Overall, choosing a subsidised public hospital route like KKH can be beneficial for low-risk pregnancies with manageable complications, providing comprehensive care with financial assistance to support growing families.
