Pediatrician Nightmare

When I got pregnant with my son, it was no doubt in my mind that I wanted my childhood pediatrician to be his. I remember her being so kind, caring, and helpful.

So for his very first appointment, we both kind of got weird vibes from her, which never happened before when asking all the normal questions about us. My husband mentioned he vapes and without hesitation she just assumed “oh so you vape in the house with him” which we were quick to shut that down quickly because he truthfully doesn’t around him.

Moving on the second appointment, we had my husband wasn’t able to make it so my mom joined me. And I kid you not this lady was a complete 360. She was so happy and friendly. laughing and having a good time with my mom.

So from there, I kind of thought well, maybe it was just like a fluke kind of thing that she was just being a doctor and getting to know more I guess. Anywho, my husband and I both went to his next appointment and she’s doing his exam and notices some discoloration on his back and she brings us to our attention. We were in complete shock because I have never noticed this coloring on him and I was scared and didn’t even know what to think so from there on she started asking so who watches him who’s the main caretaker blah blah blah and she then goes on to say oh I’m gonna write a referral to get you guys checked out to the ER because for his age is really concerning in case somebody dropped him on accident or why not.

So I was in tears at this point because I was so terrified hearing this because he never showed any signs of pain and wasn’t around anybody other than his grandmothers. As recommended, we rushed to the ER and we were taken to the back right away. They did his vitals, checked him out, brought us to a room and.. to our surprise CPS was in there waiting for us. To tell you I was beyond livid does not even begin to describe how we felt it. It was so embarrassing!! After getting x-rays on our newborn.. being pushed into a tube, on a little metal table only weeks old was terrifying just to find out there was absolutely nothing wrong with him and it was a Mongolian birthmark.

I think the nicest person of them all that day was honestly the CPS woman who looked at our son and even said herself and said I don’t even know how they noticed that I wouldn’t have even considered that a bruise. She was surprised the doctor didn’t mention cps being there for safety reasons.

So it just feels shitty to think my childhood pediatrician who I thought knew me very well would think the worst of me. Instead of looking more into it, she just assumed and it turns out it’s way more common than we thought… To be fair, I’ve never heard of it myself.

We had no choice, but to have one more appointment with the doctor because there is no getting out of it so my mother husband and I all went. We let her know how embarrassing it was and how hurt we were and how unprofessional it was. She apologized, but I could care less the second we left that room we went up to the desk, changed his primary pediatrician to our second pediatrician who has been the most wonderful doctor we could have. She looked at our son, looked at his back saw the spotting and immediately said to us it looked like typical a Mongolian birthmark and was shocked to hear of our experience with the other doctor.

Not to mention all the wild goose chases, this woman sent us on for literally no reason the first being his head for whatever reason she thought his head was misshapen but me and everybody else I knew said his head was the roundest they’ve ever seen lol… so that lead us to an appointment to get his head checked out just for the doctor to tell us his head is perfectly symmetrical and didn’t understand why we were there. Hmm. To being she sent us in for a hearing test because she felt like he couldn’t hear which at home he showed us no signs that he couldn’t hear when we said his name he looked at us and everything seemed normal to us, but she lectured us about how her daughter When she was a baby had hearing problems and she didn’t know so she had to get hearing aids and she would hate for something like that to happen to us. I completely understand the concern, but again our baby could hear…

We think she just had a vendetta against young parents. It’s sad but it is what it is right. Have you ever had a crazy doctor experience?

... Read moreChoosing the right pediatrician is crucial for new parents, yet it can sometimes lead to unexpected and distressing experiences. In our case, a seemingly kind childhood pediatrician raised alarm bells after noticing a harmless Mongolian birthmark on our son, leading to a confusing and emotional visit to the ER. Such experiences are not uncommon; many parents fear being unfairly judged by medical professionals. It's essential to trust your instincts: if you feel uncomfortable with a pediatrician, don't hesitate to seek a second opinion or switch to a more understanding doctor. Mongolian birthmarks are generally benign; they're quite common in infants and often go unnoticed by parents, as they can look like bruises. It’s important for healthcare providers to communicate effectively and to treat young families with empathy and understanding. We found a fantastic new pediatrician after our unsettling experience, who reassured us and restored our faith in our child's healthcare. Have you experienced similar challenges? Engage with our community and share your pediatrician stories to support other parents navigating these tough choices.

ive notcied a lot of young parents (including myself) are seen as irresponsible and incompetent. my baby was naturally born underweight and so her weight was behind most babies (not my fault) and the pediatrician made me feel like i was abusing her because of it!

I’ve jnoticed recently doctors just have been a lot ruder because when I was pregnant my doctors BULLIED ME! They caused me severe depression and they even said “your the problem” at one of my appointments and I havnt been able to recover, my pregnancy was smooth and healthy but I’m scared to ever be pregnant again because of the bullying. Ontop of that they constantly gave me the impression they were against breastfeeding because after every appointment I would be told my son isn’t gaining enough and they pushed formula so hard and treated me like I was abusing my son and starving him!
