January Reading Recap 📚

(ALSO NO I HAVEN'T STARTED ONYX STORM YET)

I'm no book reviewer - like seriously, if I have a good time I'll rate your book 5 stars - but I thought this would be a fun way to share my reads from this year. What do we think? 😌

THIS MONTH:

📚Fate & Furies by Helen Scheuerer

📚Shadow & Storms by Helen Scheuerer

📚Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

📚Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros (reread)

📚Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros (reread)

What is your favorite read of this month?

... Read moreOkay, fellow bookworms, let's chat about January! There’s just something so satisfying about looking back at the end of the month and seeing all the literary adventures you’ve been on. For me, a 'January book recap' isn't just a list; it's a reflection of my reading journey, the emotions stirred, and the worlds I've escaped into. This past month was a fantastic mix, and I wanted to share a bit more than just the titles. When I think about what makes a book stand out enough to mention in my monthly recap, it's often more than just the plot. It's the feeling it leaves me with. For instance, diving back into 'Fourth Wing' and 'Iron Flame' by Rebecca Yarros was pure joy. Those books, with their 'War College' and 'Dragons *Magic' elements, are the epitome of high-stakes romantasy that just sucks you in. And speaking of romantasy, Helen Scheuerer's 'Fate & Furies' and 'Shadow & Storms' were brilliant new discoveries. I loved exploring those worlds and getting invested in the 'Badass FMC' journeys. Then there was 'Project Hail Mary' by Andy Weir—a total change of pace. Described as 'SPACE JOURNEY BUT COZY?', it was exactly that! A brilliant sci-fi stand-alone that felt like a warm hug for my brain. So, how do I even keep track of all this? Simple! I use a combination of Goodreads and a small reading journal. Every time I finish a book, I jot down a few quick thoughts and my initial star rating. This makes putting together my 'January book recap' so much easier at the end of the month. It's also a great way to spot trends in my reading – like how much I leaned into romantasy this month! If you're thinking of doing your own monthly recap, here are a few tips from my personal experience: Don't Overthink It: It doesn't have to be a formal review. Just share what you genuinely enjoyed or even what didn't quite hit the mark. Your honest thoughts are the most valuable. Track as You Go: Whether it's a notes app, a spreadsheet, or a dedicated journal, quick notes after each read prevent you from forgetting details. Embrace Mood Reading: Sometimes I plan my reads, sometimes I just pick up whatever calls to me. Both approaches are valid and will make your recap unique. Connect with Others: Sharing your recap, like I'm doing here, opens up conversations and gives you more recommendations. I love hearing what others thought of books I read, or discovering new gems! Ultimately, my January reading recap is a celebration of stories. It’s about sharing the love for books like 'Project Hail Mary' that surprise you, or the comfort of re-reading beloved series like 'Fourth Wing'. I'd love to know, what was the most memorable book you read this January? Did you discover any new favorite genres or authors?
