... Read moreThe phrase "tears have no weight but it carries heavy feelings" truly resonates with me. It perfectly captures that invisible, profound burden we sometimes carry, the kind that others might not see but weighs heavily on our soul. I've learned firsthand that navigating these deep emotions is a journey, and crucially, it's not a straight line.
We often grow up thinking that emotional recovery, much like success in other areas of life, should be a consistent, upward trajectory. We expect to move from sadness to happiness in a clear, defined path. This is what you might call the perceived consistency of healing – a steady, uniform progress. But reality, as I've discovered, is far more complex. Just like how an illustration might show that true consistency isn't about perfectly full glasses all the time, but rather a mix of full, partially full, and even empty ones, emotional healing is an ebb and flow. It’s a series of non-linear efforts, sometimes two steps forward, one step back, and sometimes just standing still.
This realization has been incredibly freeing. It means that on days when the heavy feelings return, when tears unexpectedly well up, it's not a sign of failure or that I'm back at square one. Instead, it's part of the actual consistency of healing. It’s about showing up for myself even when it's hard, even when progress feels invisible. Those moments of vulnerability, those tears that feel so heavy, are actually vital releases. They are not weaknesses, but powerful expressions of the work my heart is doing.
So, what does showing up look like when you're grappling with such profound emotions? For me, it's been about small, consistent actions. It might be journaling for just five minutes, even if all I write is 'I feel heavy today.' It could be allowing myself to cry without judgment, knowing that each tear is participating in the healing process. Sometimes, it's as simple as stepping outside for fresh air, listening to a favorite song, or reaching out to a trusted friend just to say, 'I'm not doing great today.' These small, daily steps accumulate, building the resilience needed for massive internal change.
Embracing this non-linear effort has taught me immense self-compassion. It's okay to have days where you feel overwhelmed, or where you don't feel like you've made any progress at all. The important thing is the consistent effort of acknowledging your feelings and continuing to show up for your own well-being. This journey of healing from heavy feelings is deeply personal and unique, full of beautiful imperfections. Remember, every step forward, no matter how tiny or how messy, truly counts towards your growth and eventual peace.
