My Prenursing Journey 🤍🩺

How I finished my Science Nursing Prereqs in 1 year:

⚕️For some background:

I graduated in May of 2024 with my bachelors of science degree in business admin and marketing. This means I already finished the IGETC requirements for all California schools. All I had to take was SCIENCE classes for nursing schools!

🍂Fall Semester:

Anatomy, Chemistry, and Psychology.

This was my first semester, taking all science courses, so I wasn’t sure what to expect! Needless to say it was extremely difficult, but I powered through and made the deans honors list this semester. I spent every day in the anatomy tutoring center at my local community college memorizing the different models and if I wasn’t doing that, I was studying for chemistry or psychology . I was also working and volunteering throughout all of this, so it is possible. Let me know if you want a separate post on how I studied throughout these hard semesters.

❄️Winter Semester:

TEAS 7 and Developmental Psychology.

YES! I took my T7 exam before I finished microbiology and physiology. I do not recommend this to anyone who is taking their time or who is not confident in science courses. I wanted to finish all of my required tasks before applying to nursing school in the summer of 2025 therefore, I did the T7 exam during the winter semester. I used nurse cheung and the mometrix book and managed to pass the test on my first try. I also took developmental psychology alongside it.

🌷Spring Semester:

Microbiology and Physiology.

This has got to be the most academically challenging semesters I’ve ever done in my college career. I powered through as I didn’t wanna drop any science classes and I spent every single day, 8+ hours, studying for either microbiology or physiology. Although it was extremely difficult, it is not impossible and me, and another classmate both passed microbiology and physiology in the same semester.

☀️Summer Semester:

Nutrition, Child Development, and Sociology.

After taking microbiology and physiology in the same semester, this was a little bit easier for me, and I was able to pass all classes with A’s. I also learned a lot, and I’m excited to use it for my future career in nursing.

The END! I have already applied to three nursing schools, and I’m so excited to see where my nursing career is going to begin. If you’ve made it to the end, let me know if you’ve ever taken two science courses in the same semester and would you do it again?

... Read moreTaking on multiple science courses in a condensed timeframe can be overwhelming, but many aspiring nurses find it a worthwhile challenge to accelerate their nursing school applications. Managing semesters like Anatomy, Chemistry, Psychology, Microbiology, and Physiology all within a year requires disciplined time management, consistent study habits, and leveraging available resources like tutoring centers. One key strategy is to create a realistic study schedule allocating focused hours daily to each subject — for example, dedicating 6-8 hours on challenging subjects such as Microbiology and Physiology during peak semesters. Additionally, balancing commitments like volunteering and part-time jobs alongside academics not only builds a strong resume but also hones essential multitasking skills useful in nursing. The TEAS exam, a crucial admission step, can be taken strategically alongside coursework. Preparing with trusted materials like Nurse Cheung videos and Mometrix guides has helped many first-time test takers pass successfully without retakes. However, it's important to consider individual confidence and science readiness before choosing to sit the exam early. By completing prerequisite classes efficiently, nursing hopefuls can apply to multiple programs early, increasing their chances of acceptance. This approach also allows more time to focus on advanced nursing courses and clinical experiences after admission. If you’re considering taking two or more science courses in one semester, weigh your interests, workload tolerance, and support systems. While it’s an intense path, proper planning, utilizing tutoring resources, and maintaining motivation can make it achievable. Engage with peers, form study groups, and don’t hesitate to seek help when needed — these all contribute to success in a rigorous prenursing journey.
