I Got Back Dermal Piercings

My most FAVORITE piercing of all time 😩 it’s soo cute but it definitely comes with a few cons 😖

💋 I could bathe too quickly, didn’t wanna risk snagging it on the towel

💋 At first I couldn’t just lay down & chill on my back like i usually do lol

💋 It would literally hurt to cover them up, i HAD to let their presence be known 😭

Overall the piercing is superrrr cute & kinda fun to have in real life, it’s soo different & attractive 😻

... Read moreOkay, so you're curious about back dermal piercings? Let me tell you, it's not just a cute aesthetic; it's a whole experience! For those wondering, "what is a back dermal?", it’s a single-point piercing where an anchor is inserted under the skin, with a decorative top screwed into it. Unlike traditional piercings that have an entry and exit hole, dermals sit flat on the skin, making them truly unique. I was drawn to them because they're so different and really enhance the natural curves of the back, often highlighting what some call "back dimples" or adding a subtle sparkle to the lower back area. My initial article touched on the immediate "wow" factor, but let's dive deeper into what life is really like with these little beauties. Beyond the initial pain (which, let's be honest, is part of any piercing process!), the healing journey is where the true commitment comes in. The Healing Process: What to Expect From my own experience, and what my piercer emphasized, the healing stage requires dedication. You need to be VERY gentle, especially in bed. For the first few days, I had to wear bandaids, generally for 3-7 days, to protect them from snagging and make sure they stayed put while the skin started to settle. When it comes to cleaning, this is paramount. Showers are a must – NOT baths! Submerging them in bathwater can introduce bacteria. During my showers, I'd carefully bathe the area and then dab it dry with a clean paper towel. This avoids lint from regular towels that could irritate the fresh piercing. My go-to cleaning solution was Sea Salt/Saline solution. Gently spraying or dabbing this on twice a day kept everything clean. And here’s a big one: DONT put lotion, oil, or ointment directly on the area. This can trap moisture and bacteria, hindering healing. Avoiding Snags & Other Challenges The biggest challenge for me was trying not to snag them. This is where "Let 'em breathe" comes in – baggy clothes, avoiding tight waistbands, and being super mindful when getting dressed or moving around. If you do snag it, or if it feels irritated, immediately see your piercer. Don't try to fix it yourself! And a golden rule for any piercing: NEVER touch your piercing with unclean hands. This is how infections start. Are Back Dermals Safe? This is a common question, and generally, yes, they can be safe when done by a professional, experienced piercer in a sterile environment. The risks include infection, rejection (where your body pushes the jewelry out), or migration (where it moves from its original spot). Choosing a reputable piercer is key, and following their aftercare advice, along with my tips, significantly reduces these risks. If you notice excessive redness, swelling, prolonged pain, or pus, don't hesitate to contact your piercer or a doctor. What About Long-Term Care? Even after healing, dermals require a bit of awareness. They can be more prone to rejection or snagging than other piercings because they're foreign objects sitting just under the skin. Keeping them clean and being gentle with clothing and movement will ensure they stay beautiful for as long as possible. Some people opt for lower back dermal piercings or even rib dermal piercings, each with their own unique considerations for clothing and daily activities. Ultimately, getting back dermal piercings is a personal choice, and while they're incredibly attractive and unique, they do come with their own set of responsibilities. But for me, the unique sparkle and confidence boost they give are absolutely worth it!
