My Postpartum Regrets

As a first time mom you don't really know what you're getting into. You can read up on things all you want but everyone's experience is different. There were definitely things I would do differently looking back. Here are a few of my regrets.

1. Rushing to get disharged: Take advantage of the hospital! I wanted to get OUT so bad. But hospitals have so many resources to take advantage of. Use their nursery so you can rest up and recover. Stock up on their supplies. Talk with all the professionals that come around like the lactation consultants. I wanted to leave so bad and be home that I neglected the warning signs of postpartum pre eclampsia and ended up back in the hospital a couple days later.

2. I moved TWO WEEKS postpartum. That was a horrible experience. I shouldn't have procrastinated on packing as much as I did and left everything to be done postpartum. My body needed time to recover and I was pushing myself to the limit moving so much so soon.

3. Try not to stress. Postpartum can be such a stressful time navigating all the changes going on around you and within you. Try to take that first month or so to relax and focus on your happiness and your baby. It'll all be okay ♥️

What are some of your postpartum regrets??

... Read moreIt's funny how looking back, some of our biggest postpartum regrets can also be the moments we find ourselves laughing about later – or at least, finding comfort in knowing we're not alone! When you’re staring at a beautiful sleeping newborn baby, nestled peacefully, it’s easy to forget the sheer chaos that often precedes or follows that quiet moment. That intense feeling of wanting to rush home from the hospital, to finally be in your own space? Totally relatable! Who hasn't dreamt of their own bed, only to realize later that the hospital resources – hello, amazing lactation consultants, endless supplies, and even the nursery for a blessed hour of sleep – were a hidden gem we too quickly abandoned? It’s like a classic 'expectation vs. reality' meme waiting to happen, perfectly encapsulating the bittersweet irony of 'going home.' We want our comfort, but sometimes we let go of crucial support too soon. And then there's the monumental task of moving two weeks postpartum. Oh honey, that’s not just a regret; that's a whole comedy sketch in itself! I can just picture the 'kitchen counter with keys' scenario, surrounded by a mountain of moving boxes, a tiny human needing constant feeding and diaper changes, and thinking, 'What in the world was I thinking?!' It’s the kind of story that makes you want to curl up with a glass of wine (when safe, of course!) and endlessly scroll through a feed of funny postpartum memes, just to feel utterly seen and understood. The sheer exhaustion when you finally get a baby sleeping soundly in a swaddle, only to remember there are still three rooms of boxes to unpack and a sink full of bottles from that last bottle-fed session – that's a universal moment of 'mom-tired' humor that every parent can instantly connect with. Our bodies are healing, our hormones are raging, and yet we put ourselves through Herculean tasks! Even the pervasive stress we carry, trying to be the 'perfect' mom, can eventually become a rich source of relatable humor. The meticulously planned bottle-fed routines that go awry, the desperate attempts to figure out sleep schedules, or the frantic search for a pacifier at 3 AM – these often end up as hilarious, albeit tear-inducing, anecdotes shared among friends. Finding humor in these everyday struggles, whether it's through a silly meme that perfectly articulates your current state, a funny TikTok, or a shared laugh with another mom who 'gets it,' is such a powerful coping mechanism. It reminds us that while these moments feel monumentally overwhelming in the thick of it, they are also an integral part of the incredible, messy, and often hilariously unpredictable journey of motherhood. Embracing the imperfections and the occasional absurdity allows us to shed some of that self-imposed pressure. So, if you're ever feeling those postpartum regrets, or just drowning in the daily grind, remember there’s probably a meme out there that perfectly captures your mood, and a whole community ready to laugh (and sometimes cry!) with you through it all. It’s okay to find the funny amidst the chaos, because often, that's what truly helps us survive and thrive.

I also wanted to rush out of the hospital, but actually stayed 4 days!! I went in at 11pm at 37 weeks to the ER because my blood pressure was at 168/ 111 and had severe preeclampsia. I had to be induced and waited to get transferred until the next morning to St. John’s hospital.. kinda traumatizing my husband said I was pale as a ghost and shaking when I knew I was getting induced bc I was so scared. Once she was born I wanted out, but in the postpartum unit a heaven sent pediatrician gave us the advice to stay, rest and to not feel pressured to leave so we could get all the help we needed ❤️ As soon as he walked out of the room I started bawling because of how overwhelming it all was.. idk I needed to hear that at the moment.
