... Read moreIn my personal journey, I've come to realize that embracing self-worth and practicing self-preservation are fundamental to living a balanced and fulfilling life. Often, society teaches us to always put others first, which can lead to burnout and resentment. However, setting boundaries and prioritizing our own well-being does not make us selfish—it means respecting ourselves enough to protect our mental and emotional health. Self-respect is the cornerstone of healthy relationships. When we honor our own needs and feelings, we communicate to others how we wish to be treated. This clarity often fosters deeper and more authentic connections. In contrast, ignoring our own limits can result in feeling undervalued and depleted. I've found that practicing 'selfishness' in a positive sense involves making deliberate choices to preserve my energy and happiness. This might mean saying no to requests that overwhelm me, taking time for self-care activities, or distancing myself from toxic influences. These actions enhance my sense of self-worth and empower me to be fully present and generous with those who genuinely matter. Ultimately, respecting yourself by preserving your needs is not only healthy but necessary. It encourages growth, resilience, and a life where you feel true to who you are. This mindset shift—from viewing self-prioritization as selfishness to seeing it as a vital form of self-love—has transformed how I navigate life's challenges and joys.
