Training Our Parents

1/30 Edited to

... Read moreAs a trainer working closely with aging clients, I've noticed that many parents develop a hesitation toward navigating stairs and uneven surfaces as they get older. This often stems from a natural decline in balance and confidence, which can lead to dragging feet and increased risk of trips or falls. One of the most effective ways to address this is by incorporating regular balance training exercises into daily routines. Simple practices like standing on one foot, heel-to-toe walking, or using a balance board can significantly improve stability. These exercises not only strengthen the muscles responsible for balance but also retrain the nervous system to better react to sudden shifts or obstacles. It's also important to encourage older adults to practice these movements in safe environments to build confidence progressively. From my experience, consistent balance training not only reduces fear associated with steps but also promotes an overall sense of independence in daily life. Additionally, educating parents about the importance of proper footwear and home safety modifications can further minimize the risk of trip/fall incidents. Incorporating these strategies creates a comprehensive approach that supports both physical capability and mental comfort, helping parents stay active and secure longer.

Does sleep training make you a bad mom?
Sleep training vs co-sleeping has parents divided. A lot of parents will argue that one is safer than the other, and a lot of parents will get judged for doing one and not the other. Before we get into it, what’s the difference? Sleep training is basically letting the baby “cry it out”
