Cleaning swaps that won’t disrupt your hormones 🧼

I’ve been dealing with hormonal issues for years and after working with a naturopathic doctor, I learned that for sensitive individuals (like myself), small swaps can make the biggest difference.

There’s so many toxic chemicals in our every day products that might not be a big deal on their own, but they really add up when they’re in every little thing.

That’s why I’ve been slowly swapping my household and personal care products to fragrance free and non toxic versions over the years.

Here are some easy swaps you can make today!

- Regular dish soap full of dyes and fragrances for a clean and free version.

- Clorox toilet cleaner for a non toxic version that smells like mint essential oils.

- Regular dishwasher pods that are full of dyes and fragrance for a clear and free version (I get the simple truth brand from Kroger)

- Clorox for a nontoxic fragrance free version. Still kills all the germs!

- Windex for a fragrance and dye free version.

I hope this helps! 🫶 Let me know your favorite swaps in the comments!

... Read moreBeyond just swapping out a few products, truly embracing a hormone-friendly cleaning routine involves understanding why certain ingredients can be problematic and what to look for when you're shopping. When I first started on this journey, it felt overwhelming, but breaking it down made it so much easier. One of the biggest culprits hiding in many conventional cleaning products are synthetic fragrances. These aren't just about a pleasant smell; they often contain phthalates, which are known endocrine disruptors. They can mimic or block hormones, potentially impacting everything from your mood to reproductive health. That's why opting for truly 'fragrance-free' or 'unscented' versions, like those increasingly offered by brands such as Seventh Generation or even alternatives to traditional Windex, is a game-changer. Look for clear labels that specify 'no artificial fragrances' or 'fragrance-free' to ensure you're getting what you expect. Another common concern is chlorine bleach, often found in products like Clorox. While effective for germ killing, the fumes can be harsh and contribute to indoor air pollution, impacting respiratory health which can indirectly stress your body's systems, including hormones. Thankfully, there are powerful non-toxic disinfectants available that use ingredients like hydrogen peroxide or plant-derived thymol, as seen in some Seventh Generation products, which kill 99.9% of germs without the harsh chemicals. When you're scrutinizing labels for dish soap (like Dawn Platinum alternatives) or dishwasher pods (like Cascade Platinum Plus alternatives), also keep an eye out for dyes and harsh surfactants. While dyes might seem harmless, they are unnecessary chemicals that can add to your body's toxic load. Prioritize products that emphasize 'plant-derived ingredients' and transparent ingredient lists. My naturopathic doctor also stressed the importance of good ventilation when cleaning, even with natural products. Opening windows lets fresh air circulate and helps clear any lingering particles. And remember, you don't have to overhaul everything at once. Start with the products you use most frequently or those that have the strongest scents. For instance, swapping your toilet bowl cleaner for a mint essential oil-based version, as I did, is a simple yet impactful step. Making these small, intentional choices for truly hormone-friendly cleaning products isn't just about cleanliness; it's about nurturing your body and creating a healthier sanctuary at home. It’s a continuous process, but every swap brings you closer to a more balanced and vibrant you. What small step will you take next?
