CPAP in the NICU
💙CPAP is an acronym for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure 💨 This is a gentle way of helping babies breathe by keeping their lungs open at a consistent, continuous pace.
🫁Babies on CPAP are breathing on their own, but the CPAP gives them that steady flow of air and oxygen to help them breathe so their premature lungs can develop and strengthen
👶You might see prongs of a mask of the baby’s nose- this is connected to the system that maintains the constant pressure. The mask and/or prongs should be rotated and the skin should be assessed every care time💙
