Grocery day 🛒
reclaiming my life: day 3
You know what they say: health is wealth.
Eating healthy and working on healing is one of my big goals this year. Unfortunately, Walmart and Costco are an hour away, and the local grocery store is way more expensive, so I typically go to town once a month and stock up. Because it’s so far it took me most of the afternoon, but it’s worth it for my budget and my health.
I try to buy mostly whole foods- fruit, veggies, meat, eggs, grains, nuts/seeds- and healthier versions of processed foods.
Having an ingredient household definitely bites me in the butt sometimes, but eating healthy gives me more energy, helps me to be creative with meals I come up with, and helps me avoid snacking when I know I’m just bored haha.
What’s your favorite way to fuel your body?

From personal experience, balancing health and budget when grocery shopping can be challenging, especially when your preferred stores like Walmart and Costco are quite a distance away. I’ve found that planning monthly trips for bulk shopping is a game changer—it helps me save money and ensures I have plenty of wholesome ingredients on hand. Focusing mainly on whole foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, grains, nuts, and seeds has not only improved my energy levels but also enhanced my creativity in the kitchen. By avoiding too many processed snacks, I’ve also managed to cut down on unhealthy snacking triggered by boredom. One tip I’d recommend is incorporating local and seasonal produce, like those fresh keiki cukes (a type of cucumber common in Hawaii), which can add variety and freshness to your meals while supporting local farmers. Also, prepping ingredients ahead of time makes it easier to whip up healthy meals during busy days. Overall, while maintaining a well-stocked ingredient household can sometimes feel overwhelming, the health benefits and boosted creativity in meal preparation make it worthwhile. What worked best for me is treating grocery day like a wellness investment rather than just a chore, focusing on foods that fuel the body and mind effectively.
