What to do when the scale isn’t moving

It’s so frustrating when you’re doing so good and then all of a sudden you hit this rough patch where the scale isn’t moving you aren’t really seeing the progress like you were before. Hitting some kind of plateau is completely unavoidable if you ask me, but just know you’re not alone. Sometimes when we’re so upset in our routine, our body gets set on their routine as well, and we kind of have to switch things up to shock things back into action.

So if you feel like you are hitting a wall, then definitely try these tips to help you get back on track. Also remember to give yourself grace and be patient with your body 🫶🏽

... Read moreWhen my weight loss journey hit a wall and the scale just wouldn't budge, it was incredibly disheartening. I remember feeling like all my hard work was for nothing! But I learned that hitting a plateau is a sign your body has adapted, and it's actually an opportunity to get smarter with your approach. Here’s how I finally broke through and started seeing progress again, even when the numbers on the scale stayed stubbornly the same. First, I realized I absolutely had to switch up my routine. My body had gotten too comfortable with the same workouts. Instead of doing the same cardio sessions, I started incorporating strength training three times a week, focusing on progressive overload – gradually increasing my weights or reps. Then, I’d swap out a long steady-state run for a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) session, or even try a new class like Pilates or boxing. Even just changing the order of my exercises made a difference! It truly 'shocked' my muscles and metabolism into responding again. Next, I took a hard look at my nutrition and decided to switch my diet up. This was a big one for me. I started tracking my food meticulously, using an app to make sure I wasn't just guessing my caloric intake. It was eye-opening to see where hidden calories were creeping in. A major game-changer was realizing I wasn't getting enough protein. So, I made a conscious effort to increase my protein intake at every meal – think lean chicken breast, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, or plant-based options like lentils and tofu. This helped keep me feeling full and preserved my muscle mass. And those colorful carrots from the OCR? They reminded me to add more veggies to every plate. I aimed for half my plate to be non-starchy vegetables at lunch and dinner. This boosted my fiber, micronutrients, and helped me feel satisfied without excess calories. It wasn't just about food and exercise though. I also focused on the fundamentals: making sure I was getting enough sleep and water. I used to think I could get by on 5-6 hours, but prioritizing 7-8 hours of quality sleep made a huge difference in my energy levels, hunger hormones, and recovery. And water? I aimed for at least 8-10 glasses a day. Sometimes, dehydration can even mask as hunger! Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I shifted my focus to non-scale victories. When the scale wasn't moving, it was easy to get discouraged. But I started celebrating things like my clothes fitting better, feeling stronger during workouts, having more energy throughout the day, improved mood, and even better skin. I took progress photos (even if I didn't share them!) and measured myself once a month. These small wins kept me motivated and reminded me that progress isn't always reflected in a single number. Remember, consistency is key, and sometimes you just need to tweak your strategy a bit to keep the momentum going. You've got this!
