These are my top favorite foods for hemorrhoids — not only do they help soften stool and make bowel movements easier, but they’re also versatile. You can mix them into smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, or even baked goods.

Increasing fiber (like psyllium, flaxseed, chia) softens stool, reduces straining, and lowers hemorrhoid symptoms — this is backed by randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses (e.g., Alonso-Coello et al., Am J Gastroenterol 2006).

Psyllium Husk

Start with ½ teaspoon (2 g) mixed in 8 oz of water once daily, and gradually increase to 1–2 teaspoons (5 g) per day as your body adjusts. Always follow with plenty of water. It softens stool and makes bowel movements smoother—key for reducing hemorrhoid strain.

Flaxseeds

Use 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed daily (not whole). Add it to oatmeal, smoothies, or yogurt. The soluble fiber and omega-3s help decrease inflammation and keep stools soft.

Chia Seeds

Mix 1–2 tablespoons in a cup of water or yogurt, let it sit for 10–15 minutes to gel, then eat. The gel-like fiber acts as a natural stool softener and helps prevent constipation, one of the biggest hemorrhoid triggers.
