... Read moreHey everyone! I’m still absolutely buzzing about my locs journey, and seeing how much they've grown since May '23 to where they are now in July '25 is just mind-blowing! When I started, I had shorter, dark locs, and now they're significantly longer, with these amazing two-toned dark roots and lighter ends. It’s been a true labor of love, and I often get asked about my secrets to locs growth, so I thought I’d share a bit more about what’s worked for me. First off, consistency is everything. I learned pretty quickly that my locs thrive on moisture. I make sure to regularly mist my hair with a rosewater and essential oil blend – usually lavender and peppermint for scalp stimulation. Then, I seal that moisture in with a light oil, like jojoba or almond oil, focusing on the ends, which tend to get drier. This routine keeps them hydrated and helps prevent breakage, which is crucial for retaining length. Another game-changer for me has been protective styling, especially at night. I always sleep with a silk bonnet or scarf. It drastically reduces friction and lint, keeping my locs neat and healthy. During the day, if I'm doing something active or just want to switch up my look, I'll often put them in a loose bun or a simple braid. Avoiding excessive tension is key; I learned the hard way that tight styles can cause thinning at the hairline. When it comes to retwisting, I try not to overdo it. Initially, I was retwisting every 4-6 weeks, but I’ve found that stretching it to 6-8 weeks has allowed my locs to thicken and mature more naturally, contributing to that robust growth. Of course, this also depends on your hair type and how neat you prefer your roots to look. For my two-toned look, I actually experimented with a balayage technique a while back, bleaching just the ends to get that lighter shade. Maintaining that color vibrancy and health alongside growth requires extra deep conditioning treatments. Don't forget what you put into your body matters too! I try to drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet, as I truly believe healthy hair starts from within. While it might sound cliché, patience is the biggest ingredient in any locs growth journey. There will be stages where it feels like nothing is happening, or you're battling frizz, but embracing each phase is part of the beauty. My May '23 self would be so proud of the July '25 locs! This journey has been incredibly rewarding. It's more than just hair; it's about self-love, patience, and celebrating natural beauty. What are your favorite tips for locs growth or maintaining healthy locs? I'd love to hear them!
