... Read moreDisability can strike unexpectedly, even for those who have been perfectly healthy and active. I learned this firsthand when my rigorous bodybuilding routine came to a halt, and I found myself needing support such as canes just to get around. It's a stark reminder that physical abilities can change overnight, and it isn't always due to aging or injury but sometimes unseen conditions developing gradually. For many, including myself, the journey to accepting physical disability involves a lot of emotional and practical adjustments. I started relying on my family more, moving back home to live with my mom so I could get the help I needed for daily activities that once seemed simple. This period taught me resilience and the importance of seeking community support. In the process, I realized the importance of awareness about different kinds of disabilities — not only physical but also cognitive. Sometimes, medical professionals might underestimate cognitive symptoms, so it's essential to keep advocating for comprehensive evaluations. For individuals going through similar experiences or those wanting to support loved ones, practical advice includes researching mobility aids like canes or wheelchairs and connecting with online forums to share stories and advice. Understanding that disability can affect anyone at any time can foster empathy and preparedness in our communities.
