skincare serums i dont recommend

i have oily & acne prone skin!! not everyone's experience with these products are the same, they just didnt work for me 😔😔

drunk elephant hydration serum

- too expensive for doing nothingg

- save ur $$

- barely hydrating

the ordinary niacinamide serum

- it's 10% which isnt needed

- you can find a serum with a lower %

- niacinamide is typically good for oil control but this one did not work

beauty of joseon glow serum

- did nothinggg

- this brand honestly disappoints me

- none of their products work for me

the ordinary barrier serum

- didnt do much

- i feel like it broke me out ??

- only good thing is that it's pink

... Read moreIt's so frustrating when you invest in popular skincare serums, hoping for a miracle, only to find they just don't work for your unique skin! As someone navigating the challenges of oily and acne-prone skin, I totally get the disappointment. My experience with products like the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum, The Ordinary Niacinamide, and Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum really taught me a lot about what to look for – and what to avoid. Let's dive deeper into some of these. When I tried The Ordinary Niacinamide, the 10% concentration really felt like it was doing more harm than good for my skin. I've since learned that while niacinamide is a fantastic ingredient for reducing enlarged pores, regulating oil production, and improving skin texture, a higher concentration isn't always better, especially if you're prone to irritation or breakouts. Many dermatologists and skincare experts suggest starting with a 2-5% niacinamide serum, as this range often provides all the benefits without causing redness or sensitizing the skin. If you have oily skin, finding a gentler niacinamide formula might be the key to seeing those positive changes without the negative side effects. My personal tip? Always patch test new ingredients, especially potent ones! Then there's the hydration aspect. For someone with oily skin, you might think you don't need hydration, but that's a common misconception! Dehydrated oily skin can actually produce more oil to compensate, leading to a vicious cycle. The Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum didn't deliver the lightweight hydration I needed, and in my case, it even seemed to contribute to comedones. When looking for a hydrating serum for oily skin, focus on ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or polyglutamic acid in a non-comedogenic, gel-like or water-based formula. These provide essential moisture without feeling heavy or clogging pores, helping your skin stay balanced and preventing those dreaded breakouts. And for that 'glow'? The Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum was another one that just didn't click for me. Achieving a healthy glow when you have oily skin can be tricky because you want radiance, not excess shine. Instead of heavy, potentially pore-clogging ingredients, I've found success with serums containing vitamin C, mild AHAs (like lactic acid), or gentle antioxidants. These ingredients can brighten the complexion, address hyperpigmentation, and improve overall skin tone without exacerbating oiliness. It’s all about finding that delicate balance. Finally, let's talk about barrier support, which is often overlooked for oily skin. My experience with The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum, while it didn't cause major issues, also didn't provide the benefits I hoped for. A strong skin barrier is crucial for all skin types, including oily and acne-prone. When your barrier is compromised, your skin becomes more susceptible to irritation, inflammation, and even more breakouts. Look for serums that include ceramides, fatty acids, cholesterol, or soothing components like centella asiatica (Cica) and panthenol. These ingredients help repair and maintain your skin's protective layer, which in turn can lead to better oil regulation and fewer blemishes. Don't underestimate the power of a healthy barrier – it can be a game-changer for managing oily and acne-prone skin!
