Struggles of being a Muslim 😒

As a Muslim, I often find myself reflecting on what my faith truly means to me and how it shapes my life. Many people have questions about Islam, and sometimes, unfortunate misconceptions arise. I want to share a bit about what it's like to live as a Muslim and clarify some common points, from a personal perspective. What does it truly mean to be Muslim? At its heart, being Muslim means submitting to the will of God (Allah in Arabic) and striving for peace and justice. It’s a holistic way of life, guided by the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah (the traditions and practices of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him). The core beliefs are beautifully simple yet profound: believing in One God, His angels, His revealed books, His messengers, the Day of Judgment, and Divine Decree. These aren't just abstract concepts; they are the foundations of my daily existence, influencing my choices, my interactions, and my outlook on the world. My journey as a Muslim is a continuous process of learning, growing, and striving to connect with my Creator. It's about performing the five pillars of Islam: the declaration of faith (Shahada), prayer (Salat) five times a day, giving charity (Zakat), fasting during Ramadan (Sawm), and performing the pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) if able. These practices aren't burdens; they are spiritual disciplines that bring immense peace, structure, and a deep sense of purpose to my life. For instance, prayer isn't just a ritual; it's a direct conversation with God, a moment to pause, reflect, and seek guidance. I know some of the most common questions revolve around whether Islam promotes hate or if being Muslim is inherently 'bad' or 'hard.' From my experience, Islam is fundamentally a religion of peace, compassion, and justice. The Quran emphasizes kindness to parents, neighbors, and strangers, protecting the vulnerable, and upholding honesty. Any acts of hatred or violence committed in the name of Islam contradict its core principles. The struggles I sometimes face are often from external judgments or navigating a world that doesn't always understand my beliefs. While these moments can be challenging, my faith provides immense strength and resilience, reminding me of a higher purpose and a community that supports me. It's about finding beauty and wisdom in every trial. Spirituality in Islam is deeply embedded in everyday life. It's not just confined to the mosque or specific rituals. It’s about intention in every action – whether I’m working, studying, or spending time with family, I try to do it with the intention of pleasing God. It’s about gratitude for blessings, patience in adversity, and striving for good character. Even something like dressing modestly, which some may see as a 'religious dress code,' is for many Muslim women, including myself, a personal expression of devotion and identity, a choice made to honor their faith and feel empowered, not oppressed. It's about inner peace and a constant awareness of God in everything I do. Ultimately, being Muslim is about a personal relationship with God, a commitment to justice, and a life lived with purpose and compassion. It’s a journey filled with both challenges and immense blessings, constantly shaping who I am.
