From my experience living in Singapore, one thing that stands out is the legal and social processes involved. Under 21, couples must undergo multiple counselling sessions and obtain parental consent, which can be a bit stressful but ultimately helps prepare for marriage. Itās a balancing act between personal growth and taking on adult responsibilities early.
I remember feeling that while many of my friends were finishing polytechnic or starting university, I was stepping into a marriage and motherhood journey. This difference can feel isolating at times, but having a supportive partner who values communication and stability makes a huge difference. Financial independence prior to marriage also helped me feel more confident about this step.
Navigating motherhood while young means learning quickly about patience, time management, and unconditional love. The joy my baby brings outweighs the sleepless nights and sometimes chaotic days. My journey taught me that every familyās timeline is different, and success isnāt defined by age but by commitment and care.
If youāre considering early marriage, especially in Singapore, be prepared for the bureaucratic process and the emotional growth it demands. Leaning on loved ones and embracing open communication with your partner can transform challenges into a strong foundation. For me, marrying the love of my life and building our family was worth every moment of the process, and I look forward to growing and learning alongside them.
I got married at 17 years old & 31 years on we are still happily married with 3 kids
