You Can Choose or Lose Happiness
I am sure you have heard that happiness is a choice. Whether you choose to believe it or not will dictate the tone for your day or life going forward.
Colleagues, family circumstances, friends, health issues, and events in the world can be internalized in ways that steal joy. Monitor what you allow to steal your joy and be self-disciplined to reframe your perspective.
We can blame others for ruining our day, time, and mind, but ultimately we are in control of who and what we allow access to our minds and behavior.
For example, if you suffer with “mom” or “dad” issues, it may be better for you to grieve the fact they were not who you wanted them to be. You can’t control people’s actions or change them or make them have a conversation.
They may not want to change or face it. Therefore, counseling could be a great option for you to digest what happened and move forward even in their absence.
Here’s another example, if your spouse has disappointed you in some way or has not taken action in the way you had hoped, understand that your peace is not based on your spouse’s actions. It’s based on how you behave, your perspective, and if you are properly guarding your heart and mind.
People disappoint us. Unexpected events happen. All we can do is try to communicate effectively as best as possible and let go of the matter if they choose not to hear us or consider our feelings.
If your adult children aren’t who you expected them to be or behave in a way you had hoped, pray, communicate, and let it go.
Once again, we cannot control anyone - not our colleagues, friends, and so forth. Also, some people choose to stay in their cycles, so don’t stay there with them.
Let the issue go, love from a distance if you must, and let God do handle it. We don’t want to sabotage a blessing and lesson they may need to learn. God doesn’t need our help. He wants us to be obedient and listen. That’s where happiness lies. 😌
