🍊 WE GOT FOOD AT HOME!! 🗣️🗣️🏡 Episode 88 - Orange Chicken Recipe

One of my little dude’s most requested meals of the week. “I dont have the right noodles” Chow Mein will be posted on another video 😅 I also made a vegetarian version of this, which will in another post lol 😂

My son prefers this over Panda Express’ Orange Chicken because I use Chicken Breast & the sauce has a very strong orange flavor because of the frozen orange juice concentrate and marmalade. I’ve tried recreating it with the bottled Panda Express Orange Chicken sauce you can buy at the grocery store but my son and I don’t like it because of the after taste and texture. It’s weird 🥲😅

Of course if you prefer to buy and use the bottled version, please do! Whatever works for you and your family.

I don’t use measurements while cooking because I tend to adjust as I go, but here are the ingredients and estimated measurements:

Chicken & Batter:

- 2-3 lbs of Washed Chicken Breast (cubed or thinly sliced, up to you)

- 1:1 ratio of AP Flour & Cornstarch

- 1 tbsp Baking Powder

- 1-2 tbsp Chicken Bouillon Powder (it has to be the Lee Kum Kee brand. Don’t use Knorr or any other brand because they tend to be too salty. If you don’t have this - skip it and add a little bit of salt instead)

- 1 or 2 eggs depending on how much flour/cs you use

- 2 tbsp Oil

- Water (depends on your flour/cs)

🍊 Orange Chicken Sauce (adjust to your liking!):

- Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate (A MUST!! You can use plain orange juice but I swear by the concentrate because of the strong orange flavor)

- A splash of water

- 2-3 tbsp of Soy Sauce

- 1-2 tbsp Shao Hsing Wine (you gotta add this.. but if you don’t have it, skip it but it changes the flavor)

- 1-2 tbsp of Orange Marmalade (if you don’t have this, you can add orange zest)

- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar

- 1 tbsp Grated Ginger

- 1 tbsp Grated Garlic

- Crushed Red Pepper to taste

Fry the chicken in batches, dropping in the chicken one at a time. Fry it up until its crispy and golden in color, because the sauce will make it soggy. Taste the sauce once you’re done mixing it together to adjust to your liking. I’m constantly tasting things as I cook. 😅 Reduce the sauce on medium-high until thick, if you need to, you can add cornstarch slurry to the sauce but I didn’t need it. Fold the crispy chicken in and ta-da! Done ✅ Enjoy!! 🍊😌
