If you love those crispy, puffed-up Mexican wheel snacks but dread the deep-frying mess, this is your new go-to method. Seriously, 'Has anyone else air-fried their Duros?' Because if not, you're missing out! Making duros in the air fryer is ridiculously simple. First, you'll want to preheat your air fryer to around 375°F (190°C). This helps them puff up quickly and evenly. I usually let mine preheat for about 3-5 minutes. Once it's hot, place your dried duros in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Don't overcrowd it, because they need space to expand and get super crispy. Overlapping them will result in some undercooked, chewy spots, and nobody wants that! Now for the magic part: air fry them for about 3-5 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. The exact timing can vary slightly depending on your air fryer model and the thickness of your duros, so keep an eye on them. You're looking for them to puff up beautifully and turn a light golden color. They transform right before your eyes from hard, flat little wheels into airy, crunchy delights. It's so satisfying to watch! Once they're done, immediately transfer them to a bowl. This is where you can get creative with your 'duros twist'! My all-time favorite way to season them is with a generous squeeze of fresh lime juice, a sprinkle of chili powder (Tajín is a must for that authentic Mexican flavor!), and a dash of hot sauce if I'm feeling extra spicy. Sometimes I'll even add a pinch of salt if they seem a bit bland. You can also try garlic powder, onion powder, or even a sprinkle of nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor without the dairy. The best part? These air fryer duros are so much lighter and less greasy than their deep-fried counterparts. Plus, clean-up is a breeze! They make the perfect quick snack for movie night, a party appetizer, or just when you're craving something crunchy and flavorful.
