Why we change our pediatrician

We’ve changed pediatricians after 2 visits. Don’t be afraid to ask to see a new Dr. or go to a new practice find the best Dr. for your babies!

Our first pediatrician we changed after the second visit. For context I had a c-section and we have a very high bed so it was difficult to get in and out of the bed in the beginning I would have to wake my husband up every two hours to feed baby. So eventually I decided to co-sleep with my baby. Well his Dr. did not like that (I get not everyone agrees with co-sleeping) we got a very very judgy lady who said we need to stop that and it wasn’t good. I can take your professional opinion and be okay with it but I’m not going to have you going beyond that and telling me what to do and the judgment if I do not. 2nd visit I gave her the benefit of a doubt and saw her again that visit went pretty much the same. So I immediately changed Dr.s

Our 2nd pediatrician was great at first. She said do what works for you we’re just there to tell you the risks but leave the decisions up to you. We stayed with her up until 2 1/2 years until she moved practices. A week ago we saw our 3rd pediatrician in 2 1/2 years and I’ll just say he has been our favorite so far! I wish we had shopped around in the beginning to find the best fit for us.

My advice is don’t be afraid to shop around and try out a few different drs. in the beginning to choose the right dr for your baby and you! Our pediatrician office is a very busy one so they do not do meetings with new patients until baby is born. So in the hospital we were kinda on the spot to make an appointment within that first week and just had to go with who was available.

... Read moreChoosing the right pediatrician can be a daunting task for new parents. It's essential to understand that not every doctor will be the perfect match for your family. Many parents experience similar challenges in selecting a pediatrician, from conflicting parenting styles to feeling judged for their choices, such as co-sleeping. New parents often find themselves in the position of having to choose a pediatrician quickly, especially in busy practices where introductory meetings aren't possible until after the baby is born. This can lead to making hasty decisions based solely on availability rather than compatibility. Researching pediatricians before childbirth allows parents to ask important questions and gauge philosophies on parenting and care. For instance, some pediatricians might align with a more traditional approach, while others may take a more holistic or flexible perspective. Understanding these differences can significantly impact your comfort level and trust in your child's care provider. Moreover, it's completely acceptable—and often encouraged—to change pediatricians if you feel that your chosen doctor isn’t meeting your family’s needs. Whether it's due to personal incompatibility, a change in practice, or a differing perspective on health practices, advocating for your child’s well-being is paramount. By sharing experiences, parents can learn from one another's journeys, helping to demystify the process of finding a pediatrician. This open dialogue fosters a supportive community where advice can be exchanged freely, ensuring every child receives the best possible care tailored to their family's unique needs.

I shopped around for pediatricians the last 20 ish weeks of my pregnancy, asked other moms and close friends of mine who their pediatricians were and why they liked them. Settled on one towards the end and when my baby was 2 weeks old switched to another and have absolutely loved their office ever since.

This goes for everyone! Fight for yourself and your babies. I don’t have kids myself but I will never judge someone on how they parent. EVER! But a lot of care isn’t always taken for postpartum mamas either, it’s important to find a doctor that’s good for you and a Dr for your babies ❤️
