My Accutane Journey

2024/8/2 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I started my Accutane journey, I was super aware of the potential side effects, especially the dreaded 'accutane red face' or general redness. The images from my journey highlight that 'red face' was indeed one of my main side effects, alongside 'brain fog' and 'dry skin'. While I was fortunate that my experience wasn't as severe as some, I definitely noticed increased redness, particularly during the initial months. It wasn't just a slight flush; my skin felt more sensitive and looked visibly redder, especially after washing or being out in the sun. To combat this, I focused heavily on gentle skincare. I swapped out all my harsh cleansers for a super mild, hydrating one. My key strategy was constant moisturization. I layered a rich, ceramide-based hydrating moisturizer morning and night, and even carried a small tube with me to reapply throughout the day if my skin felt tight or looked inflamed. I also found that cooling face masks (the kind you keep in the fridge) really helped calm the redness temporarily and provided much-needed relief. And, of course, daily SPF 50+ was non-negotiable to protect my already sensitive skin from further irritation and potential hyperpigmentation. It’s all about protecting that delicate skin barrier! One of the biggest questions I had going into Accutane was, 'how long does it last?' or rather, 'will my clear skin last?' My journey shows that 'Now: (over 6 months after finishing Accutane) A couple breakouts here and there Overall very clear.' And honestly, that's still my experience! After finishing my course, the initial 'red face' subsided significantly, and my skin continued to improve. The key for me has been consistency with my post-Accutane skincare. I still prioritize hydration and gentle products. I’ve incorporated healing and blemish serums cautiously, focusing on ingredients like niacinamide and gentle vitamin C derivatives to maintain clarity and address any residual marks. I haven't gone back to using harsh actives like strong retinoids or aggressive exfoliants, as my skin is still quite sensitive. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and maintaining clear skin post-Accutane means listening to your skin and giving it what it needs – usually hydration, protection, and gentle care. While I do get a 'couple breakouts here and there' (because no one's skin is perfectly flawless forever!), they are tiny compared to the 'lots of little zits all over my face & cheeks' and 'cystic pimples' I used to suffer from. The transformation has been incredible, and the results have definitely lasted, making all the effort worth it. My journey started with severe acne – not just your typical blemishes, but 'lots of little zits all over my face & cheeks' and I 'commonly suffered from cystic pimples as well'. It was frustrating and really impacted my confidence. Deciding to go on Accutane felt like a huge step, and I was prepared for intense side effects, especially after hearing so many stories. As captured in my journal, 'few months in' I experienced not only 'red face' but also noticeable 'brain fog' and intense 'dry skin'. The brain fog was subtle but real; sometimes I felt a bit fuzzy or found it harder to concentrate. For the dry skin, I used lip balm constantly and invested in a humidifier for my bedroom. These side effects were manageable for me, and seeing the progress was incredibly motivating. By the 'last month,' I was 'only a few blemishes and I was hardly breaking out'. It was such a relief to finally see my skin healing. This journey truly taught me patience and the importance of a consistent, gentle approach to skincare.

My accutane Journey
Let me just preface by saying accutane is not for the weak, but it does work. It’s one of the scariest medications I’ve taken hands down with all of the warnings and possible side effects. I’ve had acne my entire life and usually the pill controlled it pretty well, until my insurance quit covering

I’ve decided to share my Accutane journey with you all ☺️ This is a vulnerable post for me, but I’m proud of where I am at now, and wanted to share that. I’ve struggled with acne since I was 13, and it has always been my biggest insecurity. I felt hideous, and wanted to just hide away more often th

What Birth Control did to my skin!😭
• Before Birth Control😖: At the age of 15, I started to have very severe acne. Over 100+ pimples and pustules on my face at one time. I remember I would wake up everyday with 3-4 pimples on my face… and it was devastating. 😖 As I got older (I’m in my 30s now), my acne became less severe. But I
