Fitness with POTS: What I’ve Learned the Hard Way

Working out with POTS isn’t simple. I’ve passed out, flared hard, and questioned if movement was even worth it.

But I’ve also found ways to move that don’t wreck me.

It’s not about going hard. It’s about going safely.

If you’re navigating fitness with chronic illness, I see you. You’re not alone.

Push through” doesn’t work here. With POTS, more effort doesn’t equal more progress. Sometimes it equals more symptoms. I’m learning to move with grace, not guilt.

Chronic illness warriors—what’s one thing you’ve learned the hard way about fitness?

... Read moreWorking out with POTS presents unique challenges that many don't fully understand until they've lived through them. Individuals with POTS experience various symptoms, including dizziness and rapid heart rates, often intensified by traditional high-impact workouts. Consequently, it's crucial to focus on low-impact exercises, such as walking, stretching, and seated workouts, to maintain activity without exacerbating symptoms. Staying hydrated is another critical aspect; electrolytes and adequate fluid intake can significantly influence overall well-being. Additionally, pacing oneself and incorporating rest periods can prevent overexertion that might lead to flare-ups. Many have learned that moderation and a tailored approach are key to fitness success when managing chronic conditions like POTS. If you're navigating fitness and POTS, consider these strategies for a safer, more sustainable approach to your wellness journey.
