My only biological family

2025/12/14 Edited to

... Read moreYou know, sometimes a picture really does speak a thousand words. Looking at this photo of me with my family member – both of us smiling and making those silly finger heart gestures on that comfy dark couch – it just instantly brings a warmth to my heart. It also gets me thinking deeply about what the term 'biological family' truly means to me, beyond just DNA. We often hear 'biological family' and think immediately of genetics, of shared bloodlines. And yes, that's certainly a core part of it. There's an undeniable connection in seeing a shared trait, a similar laugh, or even the same stubborn streak in someone else who you know came from the same ancestral tree. It's like looking into a mirror sometimes, seeing bits of yourself, your parents, and even generations before you reflected in someone else's eyes. It's a fundamental part of our identity, a direct link to a past that shaped who we are. But for me, it's so much more than just the science. It's about the shared history, the unspoken understanding that comes from growing up together or sharing family stories passed down through years. It’s the comfort of being completely yourself, knowing that even if you haven't seen them in a while, there's an instant familiarity, a shared foundation that nothing else can quite replicate. My biological family members are the keepers of my childhood memories, the witnesses to my awkward phases, and the ones who truly understand the unique nuances of our family dynamics. I remember one time, my family member and I were talking, and without even finishing my sentence, they knew exactly what I was going to say next. It’s those little moments, those intuitive connections, that truly highlight the depth of being biologically related. It’s not just about sharing genes; it’s about sharing a collective consciousness, a bond woven from countless shared experiences, inside jokes, and unconditional support. Even if life takes us on different paths or throws unexpected challenges our way, there's an underlying current of connection that persists. It’s knowing that there’s a group of people who are intrinsically tied to your existence, who have known you since day one, and who will always, in some fundamental way, be part of your story. That comforting feeling of belonging, that sense of unwavering support, is what truly defines my biological family. It’s a gift, a constant reminder of where I come from and who I am, making every moment with them, even a simple finger heart gesture, incredibly precious.

Yesterday, I found out I’m adopted. I was helping my mom tidy her messy room when I stumbled on old doctor’s notes from my childhood. As a kid, I was labeled with ADHD just a short attention span nothing major but whenever I asked about it, she brushed it off, telling me to forget that chapter.
