this simple mistake is slowing your root growth!!

do you ever feel like your cuttings are stuck in slow-mo? during fall/winter, this could be normal, but in growing seasons of spring & summer this is a 🚩

& the culprit might be your water temp…

💡 cold water can actually shock your cuttings and slow root growth. they prefer a cozy, room temp home—around 65–75°F is ideal!

lately, my cuttings have been FREEZING at all times of day. some were making sense why (under an air vent or near a window) but others were in ideal places. so i had to call in extra support (slide 4)

ever since i started paying attention to water temp, i’ve seen the roots grow faster and healthier 🫶

... Read moreProper water temperature is a critical yet often overlooked factor in successful plant propagation. Roots are sensitive to temperature changes, and cold water can cause a physiological shock that effectively pauses or slows their growth. This response is especially noticeable during the active growing seasons of spring and summer when rapid root development is expected. The optimal water temperature range for encouraging healthy root growth is between 65°F and 75°F. This range mimics the cozy environment that cuttings naturally thrive in, promoting steady cell division and nutrient uptake in the root zone. Water that is too cold, often caused by jars placed near drafty windows, air vents, or cold surfaces like stone countertops, can disrupt this balance. To maintain ideal conditions, simple hacks can be implemented. Avoid placing your cutting jars in areas exposed to drafts or direct cold air flows. Positioning jars on bookshelves, counters, or other indoor spots that retain warmth helps keep the water temperature stable. Daily rotating of the water with fresh tap water, typically near room temperature, also supports root health. For extra warmth, particularly at night, adding a heat mat specifically designed for plant propagation can provide consistent heat. Wrapping jars in soft materials such as crochet covers, socks, or cup sleeves acts as insulation, preventing sudden temperature drops and serving as 'little sweaters' for your cuttings. A quick and easy test to check water temperature is simply to touch the water. If it feels cold to the touch, it's not ideal. Allow it to warm up to room temperature or mix in a bit of lukewarm water to reach the target range. By adopting these simple yet effective water temperature management practices, you can significantly enhance root speed and quality, fostering healthier plants and more successful propagation.
