I was an out patient at a weight loss clinic though Baylor and lost damn near 70lbs. I struggled bad with binge eating and the opposite end of just not eating at all. So, I won’t reiterate my whole story but I always try and keep my meals protein forward with fiber. Since maintaining, I’ve gained 10lbs back which is fine because I was even too small for my own liking but now I’m a little more strict. Not on carbs alone, but the kind of carbs I consume and if they will benefit me or not. Protein, fiber, and low carb is my key to maintenance. I’ll leave you with one example.
Tonight we had wingstop. When I have no other option but fast food this is kinda how it looks:
-ordered tenders (either garlic parm as a treat or mild for low cal)
-put them on a carb wise tortilla (just 1.5-2 strips)
-add marzetti’s protein ranch (I won’t touch wingstop ranch ever again iykyk)
-corn on the cob side (it’s better than fries. Less fat and calories, more fiber)
If I want a snack after, I usually go for kind chocolate dipped clusters

What helped me the most was not just continuing the habits that worked during my weight loss journey but also adapting them to fit a sustainable lifestyle. One crucial insight I gained is understanding the quality of the carbohydrates I consume, rather than cutting them out entirely. Incorporating fiber-rich foods alongside protein has been key to keeping me full and preventing binge episodes.
From experience, if I have to opt for fast food, making mindful choices helps me stay on track. Swapping fries for corn on the cob provides more fiber with fewer calories and less fat. Using a protein-packed ranch dressing instead of traditional ones lowers the calorie count and improves nutritional value. Even small indulgences, like choosing chocolate-dipped KIND clusters for a snack, satisfy cravings without derailing progress.
Another important aspect is allowing flexibility. After gaining a bit of weight back, I realized that my body felt better and more energized at this new weight, so I focus less on the scale and more on how I feel. Listening to hunger signals and balancing meals keeps binge eating at bay, which was a major struggle for me earlier.
Supporting your maintenance phase with a focus on nutrient-dense foods, balanced macros, and enjoyable treats makes the process sustainable. It’s about progress, not perfection, and learning how to navigate real-life situations such as dining out or dealing with cravings. This mindset helped me embrace a healthier relationship with food and my body after years of diet culture.
If you’re on a similar journey, remember that maintaining weight loss is a continuous learning process. Prioritize protein, fiber, and smart carbs, and you’ll find a way that works uniquely for you while still enjoying life’s flavors.
