It's essentially a no-holds-barred space where you can dump every single unfiltered thought, emotion, and experience without judgment. Think of it as a mental garbage can, but instead of just discarding things, you're giving them a physical space to exist before you process or eventually let them go.
For me, it’s become an incredible 'identity map art project.' It's definitely not about perfect calligraphy or profound prose; it's all about raw, authentic expression. Like the entry I made on May 7, 2024, it’s filled with everything—from notes on my physical and mental states and daily events to deep personal reflections, frustrations, and powerful affirmations. Sometimes, it’s just a place to vent, to doodle something like 'FUCK THIS,' or to remind myself, 'I'm A BADASS.' It’s all about capturing the true, messy, beautiful essence of who I am at that moment.
This type of journaling is incredibly therapeutic. It allows me to acknowledge those strong emotional expressions instead of burying them deep down. It's a safe space to explore things to be proud of, even small victories, and to confront the challenges head-on. By literally putting these pieces of myself onto paper, I’m creating a visual record, an art piece of my inner world, charting my journey of self-discovery. It really helps me understand my own patterns, my triggers, and my overall growth.
Thinking of starting your own 'trash diary'? Here’s how I approach it. First, don't overthink it! Grab any old notebook, some pens, markers, stickers, even scraps of paper – whatever feels right to you. The key is to let go of perfection. Write whatever comes to mind, draw ugly doodles, glue in ticket stubs, or even just write a single word that encapsulates your mood. There are absolutely no rules. One day, it might be a rant about a bad day. The next, it might be a list of things you're grateful for, adorned with bright, cheerful stickers. It’s your space to be unapologetically you.
My ultimate goal, as I mentioned in my first entry, is to reflect on these entries over 365 days, and then, in a symbolic act, release the energies of 2024 back into the world. It’s a powerful way to process, acknowledge, and finally let go. This isn't just journaling; it's an ongoing art project of my soul, helping me navigate my journey and understand my true identity.
