HELP: how do you handle feeling lost in change?

lately i’ve been realizing just how disorienting change can be even when it’s a good change. moving, starting something new, shifting routines, or even just growing into a new version of myself… it feels exciting and terrifying at the same time.

for me, feeling lost usually shows up as:

– questioning every decision i’ve made

– feeling like i should already “have it all figured out”

– craving the comfort of old routines, even if they weren’t healthy

– overthinking everything at 2 a.m.

i used to think feeling lost meant i was going in the wrong direction. but now i’m starting to see that it’s often a sign of growth like my mind and body are just catching up to where i'm being led. the in-between can feel messy, but it’s also where the refining happens.

i wish i could go back and tell my younger self that “feeling lost” is actually a normal part of building a life that matters. sometimes you have to walk through uncertainty to find the clarity on the other side.

but i’d love to know... how do you handle feeling lost in change? do you lean into it? fight it? find comfort in certain habits or people? let’s share, because i know i’m not the only one navigating this right now 💭

... Read moreNavigating the middle of change can truly feel like walking through a fog—you’re no longer the person you used to be, yet you haven’t fully become who you’re meant to be. This phase is often awkward, uncomfortable, and sometimes lonely. As many have experienced, the excitement of new beginnings is often tempered by feelings of chaos, anxiety, and confusion. It’s important to understand that this “messy middle” is not a sign of failure but rather the fertile ground where meaningful transformation takes root. During transitions such as moving to a new place, starting a fresh chapter in life, or evolving into a newer version of yourself, the uncertainty can trigger self-doubt and restless thoughts—like questioning every decision or yearning for the familiarity of old, even unhealthy, routines. These reactions are common and reflect the natural process of your mind and body adjusting to new circumstances. One helpful approach to managing these feelings is to lean into the discomfort instead of resisting it. Recognize that the anxiety you experience is part of the growth journey. Many find solace by establishing new habits that provide a sense of stability—such as journaling at night to process thoughts rather than overthinking them, or reaching out to supportive friends or communities who understand your experience. It can also be empowering to reframe the narrative around feeling lost. Instead of viewing it as a problem, try to see it as a signal that you are moving forward. Growth doesn’t always look neat and tidy; sometimes it’s messy and slow, but it shapes resilience and self-awareness. Remember, while “before and after” success stories are inspiring, the real story lies in this transformative middle where change is unfolding. Feeling lost is a normal and even necessary part of building a meaningful life. You are not alone in this experience—many others are navigating similar challenges, and sharing these stories can foster connection and encouragement. Embracing this stage means giving yourself permission to not have all the answers right away. It’s okay to feel uncertain and to seek comfort where you can find it, whether through familiar routines or new supportive relationships. Ultimately, walking through the chaos brings clarity and growth that stay with you far beyond the moment of change.
