How to Break Food Addiction

Want to stop being a slave to food? Let me share my journey with you. From my heaviest at 233+ pounds in 2012 to a successful weight loss down to 165 by 2015, I've navigated ups and downs. Life did its thing—I started nursing school, got married, had a child, and faced postpartum trauma while discovering I had endometriosis. Balancing all this with a demanding Travel nursing job led to falling into my old ways.

But I'm reclaiming my health. My motivation? Looking sexy for myself and my hubby, being a fun present mom for my toddler, and honoring God with my body. Gluttony, often overlooked, it’s a sin I'm addressing.

Strengthening my relationship with God, has committed me to this journey.

Remember, life happens-grant yourself grace. But don't stay stagnant in comfort or self-loathing. Ask yourself: What's your "why"?

... Read moreFood addiction can often feel overwhelming, but recognizing the patterns can empower individuals to make lasting changes. Many face challenges such as emotional eating or psychological triggers that lead to unhealthy choices. It's essential to create a support system, whether through friends, family, or community groups dedicated to health and wellness. Engaging in mindful practices, such as journaling or meditation, can help in identifying emotional triggers and managing cravings. Nutrition education is also crucial. Understanding the nutritional content of foods and choosing wholesome, nutrient-dense options can dramatically shift one's appetite and food preferences. Building a healthy relationship with food means shifting focus from restriction to nourishment. Learning to enjoy cooking or trying out new recipes can make this journey more fulfilling. Incorporating physical activity is vital in combatting food addiction. Regular exercise not only helps in weight management but also boosts mood and mental well-being. Whether it's a brisk walk, yoga, or any form of movement, finding enjoyable activities can lead to sustainable habits. Remember, progress takes time, and it's essential to celebrate small victories. Each step forward, no matter how minor, is a victory on your journey to overcoming food addiction.
