... Read moreBefore the market opens, many traders struggle to determine which direction to take, often leading to missed opportunities or losses. From my experience, incorporating the previous day’s volume profile into your pre-market analysis can dramatically improve your edge. The volume profile shows where the most trading occurred, concentrating on the value area defined by the Value Area High (VAH) and Value Area Low (VAL). What I do is look at where the previous day closed in relation to this value area. If the close was above the VAH, it indicates strong buying interest and suggests a bullish lean for the next trading session. Conversely, a close below the VAL may hint at bearish sentiment. Then, I check the current day’s opening price in relation to these levels. An opening price outside of yesterday’s value area, especially above VAH, often signals continuation in the bullish direction. I’ve found this method particularly useful because it combines historical trade volume with price action to provide an objective, mechanical way to anticipate market behavior. It removes much of the guesswork and emotional bias that new traders often fall into. When the opening price supports the signal from the previous day’s volume profile, I confidently enter long or short positions near key value area levels. Also, understanding the volume profile deepens your insights into market structure beyond traditional candlestick patterns. For those interested, there are numerous resources and communities dedicated to mastering volume profile analysis, including free courses that break down the concepts in detail. By making it a routine to analyze the previous day’s RTH session volume profile between 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM, you can consistently identify which side of the market has control before the bell rings. This strategy saved me from countless false starts and helped build a more disciplined trading approach that aligns with market sentiment and volume dynamics.
