Can old wives tales predict your baby’s gender? 🩷🩵
I know I’m not the only one that tries to spot every little symptom and feeling to try and figure out whether im having a boy or a girl 😂 These old wives tales are something that is fun to do but unfortunately hold no merit when it comes to actually knowing what your baby’s gender is.
For instance, a lot were wrong when I was pregnant with my daughter and a lot are wrong for my current pregnancy 🤷🏽♀️😂
How do you mamas feel about these old wives tales? Are/were they correct for you?

It's so exciting when you're pregnant, isn't it? Every little change in your body makes you wonder if it's a hint about whether you're having a little boy or a girl! I remember pouring over every pregnancy wives tale and symptom chart, hoping for a clue. While my own experience has shown these tales are mostly just for fun, I wanted to share some of the most popular ones I came across and what they supposedly predict! One of the first things I looked at was the baby's heart rate. The old saying goes that a faster heart rate (140+ bpm) means a girl, and a slower one means a boy. With my first, her heart rate was always on the higher side, so that one felt like it was pointing to pink! This time around, it's been a bit more varied, keeping me guessing. Then there are the cravings. Oh, the cravings! They say if you're constantly wanting sweets – chocolate, ice cream, fruit – it's a girl. But if you're reaching for salty chips, pickles, or spicy foods, get ready for a boy. I definitely had a sweet tooth with my daughter, but this pregnancy, I'm all about savory snacks. So, this one has me totally confused! Morning sickness is another big one. Some believe severe morning sickness, especially early on, indicates a girl, while a milder experience points to a boy. Honestly, I've had my fair share of queasiness with both pregnancies, so for me, this one hasn't been a clear indicator at all. And who hasn't heard about carrying position and belly shape? The classic tale suggests that if you're carrying high and wide, it's a girl, but if you're carrying low and your belly is more pointed, it's a boy. I've heard so many people comment on my 'carrying high vs low' and guess based on that. With my first, everyone swore I was having a boy because of how I carried, and they were wrong! This time, people are still trying to guess, but I'm just enjoying the bump! The ring on string test was another fun one I tried. You dangle your wedding ring (or any ring) on a string above your pregnant belly. If it swings in a circle, it's a girl; if it swings back and forth like a pendulum, it's a boy. Mine kept going in circles, which was right for my daughter! I'm curious to try it again this time. Some people also look at headaches or even the baby boy symptoms on face – like breaking out or having clearer skin. And then there's the heartburn early pregnancy boy or girl forum discussions, where many mamas swear heartburn means a baby with a lot of hair, often believed to be a boy. I've had some heartburn, so maybe there's a tiny bit of truth to that one for me? While these old wives' tales are fantastic for sparking conversation and making pregnancy even more exciting, it's important to remember they're just for fun. The only reliable ways when can baby gender be determined are through medical methods like an ultrasound, NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing), or amniocentesis. I loved my big sister announcement for my first, and I can't wait for our next gender reveal! Ultimately, whether you're carrying a little prince or a princess, the greatest joy is a healthy baby. These fun predictions just add a little extra magic to the journey!
