Day 8 IVF

Today, I was consistently uncomfortable in the lower abdomen area due to the stimulations meds causing the ovaries to grow. I’ve finally mastered a routine that gives me little to no irritation/burning at the injection site for the Menopur & Cetrotide. Ice pack and wiping the needle with alcohol pads before injecting. Also using the extra smaller needles I have for Menopur with the Cetrotide injection helps alot. The one they provide seems like it was meant for a horse! Other than that, pretty good day. Grateful that I work from home bc I’m feeling more hungry and less excited about moving around too much. Oh headaches stopped around Day 5 I believe which I’m loving! Office visit tomorrow so I’m excited to see how much my follicles have grown since Wednesday. #ivf #ivfjourney #infertility #pcos #ttc

... Read moreUndergoing IVF treatment involves carefully timed hormone injections to stimulate the ovaries for egg development, often leading to lower abdomen discomfort as follicles grow. Many patients experience irritation or burning at injection sites, making it essential to adopt strategies that minimize these side effects. Applying an ice pack before injection and wiping needles with alcohol pads are simple but effective methods to reduce local irritation. Additionally, using smaller gauge needles—especially for medications like Menopur and Cetrotide—can greatly improve comfort compared to standard larger needles. Alongside injection site care, monitoring symptoms such as headaches and appetite changes is important during stimulation. The gradual cessation of headaches by around Day 5 can be a positive sign that the body is adjusting to hormonal changes. It's also common to feel increased hunger and reduced energy levels, so working from home or taking it easy can be beneficial to reduce physical strain. Attending regular clinic visits for follicle monitoring via ultrasound is crucial to assess ovarian response and adjust medication dosages if necessary. These check-ups typically occur every few days during stimulation, enabling the IVF team to track follicle growth accurately and determine the optimal timing for egg retrieval. Taking a proactive approach by mastering injection techniques and managing symptoms can improve overall comfort and reduce stress during the IVF journey. Support groups and online communities tagged with #ivf, #ivfjourney, #infertility, #pcos, and #ttc provide valuable peer advice and emotional encouragement throughout the process. Remember, each person’s response to stimulation is unique, so maintaining open communication with your fertility specialists will help tailor your treatment plan effectively for the best possible outcome.

A microscopic image of a fertilized egg clearly showing two polar bodies at the top and two pronuclei within the egg. Arrows point to and label these key structures, illustrating the normal fertilization pattern.
This slide details NPB (Nucleolar Precursor Bodies) scoring from Z1 (best prognosis) to Z4 (poorest prognosis), based on their alignment and distribution. It also clarifies the requirement of two pronuclei plus two polar bodies for normal fertilization, noting 2PN + 1PB as a potential ploidy marker.
IVF Day 1- Fertilization
The morning after retrieval, your embryologist checks every egg for one specific pattern. Two pronuclei (2PN) + two polar bodies = normal fertilisation. Anything else needs explanation. 🔬 1PN (one pronucleus): usually gynogenetic — activated without normal fertilisation. But some 1PN zygotes
